The Inspirational Life of Nick Vujicic

Updated on March 21, 2018

Nick Vujicic is in one word "Inspirational"

One of the most inspirational people I have ever come across is Nick Vujicic (pronounced Voy-a-chich).

Nick was born with a condition called “phocamelia” which is the very rare condition when babies are born with malformed or missing limbs.

He is the oldest of three children born in Australia in 1982 to his loving parents, Dushka and Boris. Nick and his family have a deep and unwavering faith in God, which he talks about often in his book, "Life Without Limits". Despite Nick’s condition, he leads what he calls a ridiculously happy life.”

In February 2012 Nick married the woman of his dreams, Kanae, and today is the father of two (more about that later!). He travels internationally and is a successful motivational speaker and author.

His speaking engagements continue to inspire and encourage millions of people to overcome adversity with faith, hope, and courage to pursue their dreams.

You may not know what purpose your life has at this moment, but it has purpose. Keep going, keep moving forward and keep trying and never give up on yourself.

Life Without Limits: Inspiration for a Ridiculously Good Life
Life Without Limits: Inspiration for a Ridiculously Good Life

In this book Nick shares with the reader his story from the time of his birth to how he overcame obvious obstacles, endured humiliation and teasing from his peers, and also suffered through depression and found life's purpose. He encourages the reader to learn to accept what they can't control and focus on what they can. He shares his amazing journey and reveals how he has come to lead "a ridiculously happy life" even though he has no arms or legs. A must read!

Nick's Faith and Sense of Humor

When I first saw Nick on the cover of his book, "Life Without Limits" (above) it was his smile that jumped out at me, more so than his lack of limbs. Not only that, but he is also a very handsome guy.

Throughout his life, Nick has dealt with the teasing of other kids at his condition and the confused and shocked glares from people seeing him for the first time.

While he states in his book that being so different was so extremely difficult at times, he also was able to work through these emotions and never lost his sense of humor.

He has also attributed his ability to get through the tough times in his life to the support and love of his parents, brother, sister and many cousins, aunts and uncles too. Today he is married to the beautiful woman of his dreams, Kanae, and they have recently had a gorgeous baby boy, Kiyoshi.

There's a story in his book about his left foot (yes, he does have one) and how it was nicknamed "the chicken drumstick" by his cousin one day simply because that's what she said it looked like and they all laughed about it.

When Nick was a baby the doctors thought of amputating his left foot (what he refers to as "the chicken drumstick") thinking it would get in his way as he grew older. However, Nick is very thankful that they never did because his chicken drumstick enables him to do quite a few things that he wouldn't be able to do without it. He prides himself on being able to type 40-45 wpm with it!

The message Nick wants to spread to the world is that although we all go through pain in our lives, your life is a beautiful gift from God and no matter what you are going through, there is always hope and help and to never, ever give up.

Despite his physical limitations, Nick rarely lets anything stop him from doing anything!

Helping Others

Although Nick’s attitude toward life is now positive and uplifting, of course he definitely had days where he wondered “Why?” - why would God do this to him?  What purpose could his life serve as someone with no arms or legs?

And most of all he would wonder if there was anyone else like him in the world, or was he the only one?

One of the best stories Nick tells in this book is about the first time he met a young child who was just like him, a boy named Daniel, who was also born with phocomelia (pictured below).

In his book "Life Without Limits" Nick describes seeing Daniel for the first time and how he was overwhelmed with emotions he had never known.

It was this moment when his life was forever changed because he realized that he could help someone and that someone actually needed him and that he could help others because of what he had been through.

Everybody's going through something, we’re all going through something. My pain is just more visible than yours.

Nick has learned how to do a lot of things despite his missing limbs!

Nick & Kanae

a Love Story...

There were times in Nick's life where he definitely felt that he would never find his princess, someone who would love him and want to spend the rest of their life with him.

That is until he met the beautiful Kanae Miyahara.  When Kanae and Nick met they had an instant attraction to each other and fell madly in love.

Nick proposed to Kanae on a yacht and they were married in a beautiful ceremony in 2012.  Kanae gave birth to their gorgeous and adorable baby boy named Kiyoshi James Vujicic in 2013.

There is a video below of their beautiful love story that is definitely worth watching.
