The John Lewis Christmas Advert

As the years have gone on, in the UK, the John Lewis Christmas advert has become as iconic as Santa being in a red suit. Every year we get different advert, with enormous anticipation and expectation... and usually, we get the song from the advert making the Christmas top10.

Famed for its ability to tug at the heart strings, as well as its high quality production, the John Lewis Christmas advert is as much a topic of conversation as Strictly or the X Factor. And of course, the John Lewis advert gets it's first airing during the first commercial break of the XFactor - no expense spared!

Personally, I didn't really like 2012's John Lewis advert, but loved the 2013 Hare the Bear advert - the animation is beautiful and it's in 2D, which is becoming a rarer and rarer art form, what with the rise of technology and 3D animations! But I gotta say, I'm a HUGE fan of #MontyThePenguin and the 2014 advert!

Sooooo, what do YOU think of the John Lewis Christmas adverts? On this page you will find opinion as well as all the beloved adverts themselves.

The John Lewis Advert 2014 - Monty The Penguin!

The Best Christmas Advert yet?

Here it is folks! The retail giant, John Lewis has released its 2014 advert. After last year's animation, all eyes on this brand!

Appealing to my personal nostalgia, of loving penguins when I was little, I loved this advert before I even saw it! Of course, I think it's clear about half way through what's going on...and yup, they've done it again, they've managed to pull on our heart strings, and deliver another beautiful advert.

Monty the Penguin really appeals to everyone who ever truly believed their little teddies were real. I know I certainly did.

I want to hear from you, what do you think? Leave you comments at the bottom of this article.

The Bear & The Hare - The JL Christmas Advert 2013

The Bear & the Hare!

Compared to last year's advert, I think John Lewis has done a much better job! This one is lot cuter for a start, and celebrated the medium of 2D animation, like the renaissance days of Disney. Lovely. I'm not sure about the song, there's something a little jarring about Lily Allen singing a Keane song, I don't know why. I do really like Lily Allen, but was rather hoping they would pick an unknown singer, like last year's choice of Gabrielle Aplin.

To download Lily Allen's haunting version of Keane's "Somewhere Only We Know" visit Amazon.co.uk right here, now!

The John Lewis Advert 2012 - The Journey

This is a very sweet advert - but it leaves with me too many questions to count!

The John Lewis Advert 2012 - The Journey

The 2012 advert certainly tugged at the heart strings. As we watched the snowman trek across the UK, to buy his loved one a present from John Lewis. I think the advert is all very well, but I think its message is a bit confusing. I mean, snowmen should never do Christmas Shopping! The message from the advert is that you should order your John Lewis items online because clearly, your local John Lewis is miles away! But what I don't understand, is why is it that no one in John Lewis seemed to question a Snowman...buying items...in a shop? And who was the silly member of staff who served a snowman? Or did the snowman just steal the items, because I certainly didn't see him with any money!

John Lewis Christmas Advert 2011 - The Long Wait

The Long Wait

I have to say, I think this advert stands out as one of my all time favourite adverts. As you start watching, you think you know where the story is going, then at the end, we get a gorgeous twist. The cute and aww factor in this advert is huge. As we watch the little boy count down the days to Christmas, and when we find out why he has been counting down the days, your heart will melt. It's beautiful.

The 2010 Advert

To be honest, I think the only memorable part of this advert is the song. I think this advert really propelled Ellie Goulding into the stratosphere with this gorgeous rendition of Elton John's Your Song. Of course, this advert is super cute...but to be honest, it's not a patch on JL's most recent productions!

Are you a fan or a cynic? Which is your favourite one?
