The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry

Updated on November 4, 2015

The Movie

We never heard about this movie until our friend came to have dinner with us and brought this dvd for us to watch. After dinner, we watched the video; I never thought that I would cry and laugh and cry again. It was so moving that I could not hold my tears (I cry easily), but my husband cried too! This movie is so inspiring and touches our hearts as family. It made you think of people more and how important it is to know the Lord Jesus Christ. Great film for the whole family; excellent heartwarming movie.

This film was made in 2009 by Christian Film Group. "The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry" was a very touching movie of friendship and love for other people. The movie centered on three best buddies, Dustin (Jansen Panettiere), Mark (Allen Issacson) and Albert (Franckie Ryan Manriques), with Gavin Macleod as Jonathan Sperry, the main actor in the film. Directed by Rich Christiano.

We bought our own copy of this movie and watched it few times already with our friends.

The Story

Released in the theater September 18, 2009, was filmed in Holley, New York

The film setting was in a small town in the 70s. The movie was focused on three best friends who were looking forward for their summer fun. Twelve- year-old, Dustin, Mark and Albert. There was a scene where the three boys were on their way to the diner where Tanya is working helping her Dad. Dustin likes Tanya and would want to ask her for a date. This was his first time to ask a girl for a date. There was a town's bully, Nick, that always wants his ways and gave the boys hard times and who happens to like Tanya also.

These boys lives changed, when Dustin started working with Mr. Jonathan Sperry, mowing his lawn. The three boys developed a wonderful friendship with this nice, elderly gentleman. He became an example of humility, kindness, and love to these boys. He started a Bible Study, his lessons were unique and thought provoking. The group grew in number due to the witnessing of these three boys, even Nick became a believer after few encounters with Jonathan Sperry. Mr. Sperry asked Dustin to mow the lawn of his stubborn, elderly neighbor, Mr. Barnes, at his expense... Dustin at last had the courage to tell Tanya that he likes her, but instead of asking her for a date, he told her to read the Bible in the Gospel of John.....

I have given too much about the movie. To learn the secret of Jonathan Sperry, watch this inspiring movie and see for yourself the amazing story of love, forgiveness and lives changed. See how Jonathan Sperry inpacted the lives of these young boys....God bless!

Now I have a question -why are so many americans choosing to home school their children-I always knew about it but here on Squidoo i am guessing 1/3 or 1/4 are home schooling. I am just curious. We had an excellant education system in Ireland so until now it was never a factor
