The Terminator: Classic Chick Flick
The Terminator is one of the most beautiful love stories in science fiction, and a thrilling tale of a young woman's discovery of her own heroism - if looked at from the right angle. I apply a liberal dose of fast-forward to the gory scenes to craft my own sweet romance saga. (Alternatively, you could fast-forward through all the love scenes to make a blood-spattered adventure - two movies for the price of one!)
Sarah Connor, our plucky heroine, faces off against killer robots with a self-deprecating humor that steals her dutiful young soldier's heart. Their love grows quickly against all obstacles of wounds, dirt, impending death, and Sarah's unspeakable eighties hairdo. (One can only feel for the actress whose most famous role has immortalized her looking like the loser in a paintball/glue gun fight.)
Under the tutelage of her time-traveling hero, Sarah goes from waitress to warrior just in time to face Arnold Schwarzenegger in the role he was born for. But even in the midst of looming disaster and flying shell casings there is time for love, and Sarah teaches Kyle that they don't know everything in the future.
This great remastered edition includes, as extras, the deleted scenes. I only wish someone would mix the deletions back into the movie - they add so much depth to the characters, and even more poignancy to the story.
Seriously - seriously, Terminator is one of the great science fiction movies. It will outlast all changes in fashion, music and special effects, because it has a heart. And because it has Sarah Connor, the Elizabeth Bennet of the twentieth century.
A remastered edition of the original movie, very crisp and clear, with lots of delicious extras. A great way to make new fans in generations who've never seen the movie before.
Who is the movie's true hero?
Sarah Connor really comes into her own! Too bad Kyle isn't there to see her (though there's some good fantasy deleted scenes.)
Lena Headey as Sarah Connor and Summer Glau as a new Terminator in a stunning action series.
Sarah discovers true love!
