THREE STOOGES SOUNDTRACK 2012 Features LMFAO, Foster the People, Bob Dylan & The Allman Brothers

Updated on September 20, 2013

All the Music Featured in the 2012 Movie

Singer Jennifer Hudson rocks the house with her soulful rendition of the Spinners "It's a Shame", just one of the thirty songs either featured or referred to on the 2012 Three Stooges Soundtrack from the Farrelly Brothers. The pitch woman for Jenny Craig appears in the movie in full habit as Sister Rosemary. Be sure to hang in there for the end credits to catch Hudson riffing and grooving with The Three Stooges.

Music from the movie includes everything from Bach to Beirut, Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers, Steriogram, David Byrne & the Talking Heads, Grouplove, New York Dolls, Buva, The Allman Brothers, LMFAO, Charlie Rich, Foster the People, Bob Dylan, The Spinners & The Three Stooges.

The movie also refers to Merv Griffin's Jeopardy theme song along with the theme music from the television series Perry Mason. Songs chosen for the 2012 movie version of The Three Stooges were selected by Tom Wolfe and Manish Raval (Bad Teacher, Hall Pass, There's Something About Mary). Score music was composed by John Debney whose credits include (A Thousand Words, New Year's Eve, The Change-up, No Strings Attached).

Rather than rehash vintage Three Stooges sketches, The Farrelly Brothers decided to produce an homage to their much beloved comic trio with a modern take, wondering how the Stooges would react to situations today. It seems that Jim Carrey would have been perfect to play a part in this redux as Curly and at one time Sean Penn was even cast as Larry and Benicio Del Toro as Moe with Paul Giamatti's name even potentially attached to the project.

The final cast ended up being Will & Grace's Sean Hayes stars as Larry, Will Sasso from $#*! My Dad Says plays Curly while Chris Diamantopoulos (Up All Night, American Dad!, 24) plays Moe. Rounding out the cast Jane Lynch (Glee), Jennifer Hudson (American Idol), Sofia Vergara (Modern Family), Craig Bierko (Boston Legal, Cinderella Man), Stephen Collins (7th Heaven) and Larry David. Plus for fans of Antonio Sabato Jr. Dante who Damiano from The Bold and the Beautiful, look out for him in a cameo appearance as "Handsome Guy #1".

The Three Stooges was released in theaters on April 13, 2012 and on Blu-Ray / DVD July 17, 2012. I see that Netflix has now made it available to stream online. No official soundtrack of the music was released with Debney's score. However, you can download individual songs from The Soundtrack to the 2012 Three Stooges Movie.

Top 3 Reasons to See the New Three Stooges

  1. Jane Lynch

It doesn't matter what movie or television show she appears in. Jane (The 40 Year Old Virgin, For Your Consideration) makes funny, funnier. As Mother Superior in the Three Stooges, she amps up the fun. So if you've already run through all the episodes of Glee and have seen Best in Show, A Mighty Wind more times than you can count, you may enjoy this film.

  2. Jennifer Hudson

Seeing J-Hud in the music video that plays over the movie's credits singing a cover of "It's A Shame" by the Spinners is well worth the wait. BTW, there must be something to a name. It turns out that Jennifer was actually born Jennifer Kate Hudson. Kate who has now stepped out of her Mom Goldie Hawn's shadow has proved her namesake is golden as well.

  3. Slapstick Comedy

There's not a lot of physical slapstick in movies these days except for the brilliance of Melissa McCarthy so if you like this kind of funny, the Three Stooges is a film just for you.

Music Video "It's a Shame" - End Credits Three Stooges Movie 2012

When I heard Jennifer Hudson was appearing in the new The Three Stooges movie as a nun, I secretly hoped for a little Sister Act kind of vibe. Fans of singing nuns will not be disappointed if they hang in to watch the movie's closing credits where Hudson as Sister Rosemary lays down a kind of gospel groove to the Spinners classic "It's a Shame" co-written by Stevie Wonder. In this cover, it's the former American Idol finalist grooving with the 2012 Stooges Sean Hayes, Will Sasso & Chris Diamantopoulos yukking it up on this two minute music video.

If just hearing the song "It's a Shame" has you nostalgic for the original Motown version by the Spinners, you can click on the CD to preview on or to download the MP3.

It's got that reliable Detroit backbeat thanks in part to great songwriting by Stevie Wonder co-written by Syreeta Wright and Lee Garrett.

Jennifer Hudson as Sister Rosemary

In an interview with Ebony Magazine, Jennifer Hudson talks about taking on the role in the new Three Stooges movie in part as a tribute to her late mother who was a fan of the comic geniuses. Curious about Hudson's fiancée, David Otunga? Check out her interview with him on Oprah's Next Chapter.

I Got This: How I Changed My Ways and Lost What Weighed Me Down

In an interview with Good Housekeeping Magazine Jennifer Hudson reveals she lost over 80 pounds and has kept it off for over a year. Unlike Jessica Simpson or Kirstie Allie, the feisty former American Idol contestant had the will to keep the weight off and plenty of incentive to do so. The Three Stooges Movie Trailers on iTunes

In these movie clips, Chris Diamantopoulos who plays Moe in the new Three Stooges movie, when his face is scrunched and his bowl cut, he's seriously a dead ringer for Jim Carrey playing the role. But if you check out Diamantopoulos' photos on IMDb, he's a total cutie-pie rather than just a goofy stooge.

You can check out Chris in upcoming movies tentatively scheduled to be released in 2013 including Empire State with Dwayne Johnson, Liam Hemsworth and Emma Roberts, The Art of the Steal with Jay Baruchel, Kurt Russell and Matt Dillon along with the romantic comedy The Truth About Lies.
