The Very Best of Modern Talking
I first came across Modern Talking when exploring YouTube fairly recently. I had been listening to a lot of 80's music and so YouTube recommended 'You're My Heart, You're My Soul' by Modern Talking. I loved it on the first hearing.
The music and the videos are extremely cheesy in that fantastic way things were back in the 80's, with a lot of synthesizer sounds, catchy melodies and dramatic fist-clenching at the camera. Once I'd finished listening to the first song, I followed the links to find even more. I soon came across songs such as 'Cheri Cheri Lady', 'Atlantis is Calling (S.O.S. for Love)' and the fantastically named 'Geronimo's Cadillac'. After a few days listening to the songs on YouTube, I decided to buy the greatest hits.
The song that started it all for me. The video makes me laugh every time.
This particular hits collection comes complete with two CDs. The first contains hits from Modern Talking's original stint in the charts during the 80's, along with some club remixes of the same songs. The duo have a very distinctive sound and their own particular trademark of always breaking into falsetto for the chorus. Just listen to a few tracks to see what I mean.
The second CD contains tracks from Modern Talking's comeback in the late 90's. This time round, they ditched the 80's hair, shell suits and synthesizer music for a more uptempo Euro dance sound, featuring guest vocalists such as rapper Eric Singleton. I much prefer the first CD, but the second one has its moments and the comeback certainly went down well in their native Germany.
I would recommend this CD to anybody who loves cheesy, synthesizer pop from the 80's, especially that particular sound coming from Germany during the decade.
A very catchy tune and another bizarrely good video. I haven't got a clue what the lyrics are all about however.
One of my favourite Modern Talking songs.
