The Beauty of Natalie Portman
Natalie Portman FanLens
I have not seen a real Natalie Portman squidoo lens and I thought as a die hard fan of hers I would make one worthy. I'm not biographer, so I'm just gonna give the basics as best as possible... I'll also be giving mini reviews about all of her movies. :)
When I was about 12 the first Star Wars movie came out and it was love at first sight. I never outgrew her either. I still think of her as the most beautiful women in the world. And she is very smart and extremely talented. Women like her come around every millennium or so.
Let me give a shoutout to the great fansite ever made... natalieportman.com! I am not affiliated with them in anyway but they work really hard and deserve the praise. I will be using a lot of pictures from the site and will be using it to help in research (not the only place though).
!WARNING! This lens is going to be very loooong and detailed. !WARNING! :)
A little taste of her amazing personality
Speaking French I believe, she can even keep a sunny deposition in the rain :)
Which new Nat movie are you looking forward to the most?
The Early Years (1981-1996)
Once upon a time... wait, this is a biography not a fairy tale even if the girl involved could easily be confused with a princess. Natalie was born on June 9th, 1981 to Avner & Shelley Hershlag in Jerusalem, Israel. Her family didn't stay in Jerusalem and after a little bit of moving the family finally settled in New York City. This proved to be the right choice for young Natalie Hershlag... she was discovered at 11 in a New York pizza parlor by a modeling agency. This was short lived since her passion was in acting and not just in looking pretty for the camera.
Before hitting the big screen she was active in several live plays, which helped her sharpen her acting talent. Her first full length film came just a few short years after her discovery at the tender age of 12-13. The film was Leon and a little bit below this will be her audition and trailer for the movie.

The Diary of Anne Frank - Her first play.Click thumbnail to view full-size
Great video showing her on stage and some interview clips... this is actually the first I've seen of any video of her performing the play. I would love to see the entire thing but I still haven't found it.
Tim Burton's black comedy about the planet-wide pandemonium that ensueswhen "little green men" from Mars come to gleefully terrorize Earth. (Source: Amazon)
While Nat's role is minimal, she is definitely one of the stars of the movie! Great comedy, with some heavy hitters in it (Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Pierce Brosnan, and a young Jack Black)... it's self-aware humor is spot on! I would rate it ahead of Men In Black when it comes to sci-fi comedys.
“I’m going to college. I don’t care if it ruins my career. I’d rather be smart than a movie star.”— USA Today Novemeber, 1994
Natalie has it all... getting bigger and bigger movie roles, all while going to school and getting A's. This is where she would make possibly the smoothest transition from child star to full blown movie star EVER. She really was a big bright spot in a rather reviled set of prequels... after all the success she still finds time for some stage acting (Diary of Anne Frank) and getting into Harvard, where she would complete a degree in psychology.
“I don’t love studying. I hate studying. I like learning. Learning is beautiful.”— Interview Magazine March, 1996

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
The movie where is all started for me.. the movie might be hated among the Star Wars faithful, to an 11 year old it was a classic! Like I said this is when I become a fan of Natalie, so it will always have a place in my heart as a favorite.

- 1 cup quinoa
- 1/2 cup sweet corn (fresh, frozen or canned)
- 1/4 cucumber
- 1/2 red onion
- 5 sundried tomatoes
- 1 lemon
- 1/2 tsp dijon mustard
- 1 tsp cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- pinch organic unrefined sugar
- salt and pepper
- handful finely chopped dill
- handful of radish sprouts (or alfalfa etc.)
- In a pot add 2 cups of water to the quinoa. Bring to a boil, cover and then gently simmer until all the water has absorbed. Transfer to a plate and set in fridge to cool.
- Finely dice the red onion. Skin and de-seed the cucumber and cut into small chunks. If you’re using fresh sweet corn, take it off the cob using a knife and blanche the kernels for a few minutes. If using frozen, place them in a bowl, cover with freshly boiled water, drain and rinse. If using canned simply rinse. Cut the sundried tomatoes into small pieces. Set all ingredients aside.
- In a clean empty jam jar (remember, don’t throw these things away they come in very handy!) add the mustard, sugar, salt and pepper, vinegar, lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil and dill. Screw the lid on tightly and give it a vigorous shake.
- Take the quinoa out of the fridge and carefully mix through all the ingredients. Pour over two thirds of the dressing and give it a gentle, coaxing stir. Serve in a bowl, topped off with the sprouts and using the remaining dressing to drizzle over the top.

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones
More beautiful Natalie and Yoda fights in it! Must say that I hate Hayden Christensen, not because he gets to kiss Natalie but he is a terrible actor! Overall I love the Star Wars Universe, so I would happily add this to my collection.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
Probably the best of all the Star Wars prequels (withholding that god-awful "Noooooooo" at the end... what the hell was that?)... it was pretty hardcore with the whole choking and birthing scene. But I don't want to give away too many details, although I'm sure many of you have seen the movies.
“Dreams are basically, like, the farts of the mind”— Rolling Stone June, 2002
How could you not love this character!?!
A quietly troubled young man returns home for his mother's funeral after being estranged from his family for a decade. (S:Amazon)
If it wasn't for this movie "Leon" would've been my runaway all-time favorite Natalie movie... this movie starts off a little slow but once it starts up it won't let go. Had me crying at the end and gave it a round of applause (I was by myself haha)! Phenomenal soundtrack too, really plays to the mood very well. Showed that Zach Braff is more than a loveable resident but also has acting and directing chops!
A must buy movie!

V for Vendetta
In an alternate future where Germany won World War II and Great Britain is a fascist state, a masked vigilante known only as "V". (S:Amazon)
Another movie that sits in the upper echelon of amazing Natalie Portman movies... her British accent is pretty adorable as well. This also proves to me that she is the most beautiful woman on the planet! Having a shaved head and still look stunning is not something everyone can pull off. Excellent movie, a must watch!
Remember, Remember the 5th of November!
Academy Award(r) nominees Natalie Portman and Javier Bardem star in two-time Academy Award(r) winning director Milos Forman's thrilling new romantic drama! When his beautiful muse (Portman) is accused of being a heretic, renowned painter Francisco Goya (Skarsgard) must convince his old friend Lorenzo (Bardem), a power-hungry monk and leader of the Spanish Inquisition, to spare her life. (S:Amazon)
Haunting. Uncomfortable. Mesmerized. Unsure.
Are a few of the words I would use to describe this movie and the reason I say "unsure" is I'm not sure if I actually like this movie... I would suggest watching it at least once but personally I don't think I'll have it in my collection.

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium
When Mr. Magorium (Hoffman), the proprietor of a magical toy store where all the toys are alive, announces that he will at long last hand over the reigns of his empire to his faithful cashier (Portman), the store decides to throw an unusual tantrum. (S:Amazon)
Funny story about this film... it came out when I was about 18 or 19 and I went to go see it by myself, in theater, with a bunch of little kids. I felt a little strange I won't lie but was quickly comforted by Natalie's fun performance. It's nice since she can tend to do heavier stuff to see her having fun and showing that side of herself. Good movie, would recommend for sure!

In this psychological thriller set in the world of New York City Ballet, BLACK SWAN takes a gripping journey through the psyche of a ballerina whose role as the duplicitous swan queen turns out to be a part for which she becomes frighteningly perfect. BLACK SWAN is now the winner of five Academy Award nominations. (S:Amazon)
That was my reaction after this movie... she rightly won the oscar for this movie and I can't say much more but see this movie ASAP!
Marriage and Motherhood
During the amazing "Black Swan", Natalie would meet her future husband and begin a new exciting part of her life. The cherry on top was her winning her first Oscar... long overdue to me (she should've at least been nominated for Leon).
I think this is the beginning of a Meryl Streep type career (she has won less than she deserves too but other people need a change, right?). The comparison is very real when you consider that Natalie did a comedy right after her award, much like Meryl does.
Very helpful to keep her from getting pigeon-holed and I don't think the Oscar curse will be able to touch such an established actress!
Fresh from her well-deserved Oscar, she loaded up 3 films for 2011... and added a modeling gig on the side. She truly is a wonder woman!
No Strings Attached
Academy Award Winner Natalie Portman (Black Swan) and Ashton Kutcher (What Happens in Vegas...) star in the hilarious hit comedy that takes a modern look at what happens when friends-in-need do the deed. Emma is a busy doctor who offers her best friend Adam an unconventional relationship with one rule: No Strings Attached. But when a fling becomes a thing, can sex friends stay best friends? (S:Amazon)

Natalie is a vegan! While we might not all want to choose the vegan eating style, we can buy vegan clothing...
Get high and mighty with Danny McBride, James Franco and Natalie Portman in Your Highness, the epic and hilarious action-comedy from the director of Pineapple Express. (S:Amazon)
Few laughs but not my favorite... might be worth just the scene of her jumping into the lake in her underwear ;). Drugs will be needed to enjoy this film, so I wouldn't recommend paying too much ;)

Natalie returns to the big action flick for the first time since Star Wars. Likable movie but not as fun as Iron Man... wish she had made more of a cameo in The Avengers. Good popcorn movie, watch it...

This video is an hour long, so I'm guessing only a true die hard fan would watch it... so I'll just leave it at the bottom :)
The 1917 Pirandello play "examines the fundamental ambiguity of truth, and the seductive powers of language in conjuring up a female character who may never actually appear amongst the actors on stage as they obsessively dissect her attributes and identity," as press materials explain. "Rumor and celebrity mongering become the substitute for a deeply examined life."
