Toni Collette, Australian Actress

Toni Collette is an Australian actress who is versatile and talented. Her most famous role was as the mother of the little boy who "sees dead people" in The Sixth Sense.

Whether Toni Collette is acting in a television show like The United States of Tara or in one of the numerous movies like In Her Shoes or Little Miss Sunshine, she becomes the character and shines.

Muriel's Wedding - Toni Collette played Muriel

These are Toni Collette's early movies. Toni Collette starred in Muriel's Wedding, a 1994 Australian film that became an international hit. This was Toni Collette's breakthrough role.

Before starring in Muriel's Wedding, she acted in the TV show A Country Practice and the movie The Efficiency Expert.

Cosi, The Pallbearer, and Emma - 1996 Movies Starring Toni Collette

In 1996, Toni Collette acted in the following movies:

- She was Julie in the Australian movie Cosi.

- Toni Collette starred as Cynthia in The Pallbearer with David Schwimmer and Gwyneth Paltrow.

- Again she acted with Gwyneth Paltrow in the movie Emma.

The Sixth Sense - Toni Collette Played the Mother

In the 1999 blockbuster movie, The Sixth Sense, Toni Collette played the mother of Haley Joel Osment's character, the little boy who had the sixth sense.

The famous line Cole Sear uttered to Bruce Willis's character, Dr. Malcolm Crowe, "I see dead people" is iconic.

I love the scene where the boy's mother (Collete) leaves the kitchen for just a few seconds and when she comes back, there are Pop-Tarts on the counter. Of course, it was the dead people, not the boy who took them out of the cupboard. She asks him, "Did you want these?"

Connie and Carla - A Hilarious Comedy Also Starring Nia Vardalos

This 2004 movie starring Toni Collette and Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) is a hoot!

These two live in Chicago but skip town to Los Angeles and they get jobs as drag queens in a caberet.

In Her Shoes - Toni Collette, Cameron Diaz, Shirley MacClaine

I think In Her Shoes is one of Toni Collette's best movies. She plays the older straight-laced sister of Cameron Diaz and basically gets the short end of the stick most of her life.

Little Miss Sunshine

Little Miss Sunshine is another winner! It provides laughs from start to finish.

Starring along with Toni Collette in this movie are Steve Carrell, Greg Kinnear, and Alan Arkin.

The Night Listener

The Night Listener is so creepy and good!

Have you seen this one? It's great! So is the book Night Listener, The tie-in: A Novel (P.S.) by Armistead Maupin.

Lillian's Story

Toni Collette played the young Lilian Singer in Lilian's Story, a movie that was "Based loosely on the life of legendary eccentric Bea Miles, who recited Shakespeare for a dollar on the streets of Sydney and rode taxis for a sonnet," according to IMDb.

The United States of Tara - Tara, Alice, Buck, T, Shana Shoenenberg, Chicken

Talk about being a versatile actress! I loved watching Toni Collete play all of these characters, and play them so well: Tara, Alice, Buck, T, Shana Shoenenberg, and Chicken.

I don't even remember her being in The Sixth Sense, but that movie wasn't memorable for me anyway. I always think of her as Muriel! Every time I see her in any movie she is partly still Muriel to me. For her sake, I hope she gets at least one more really great movie. She lit up the screen and I've never seen her do the same since.

It was a toss up between Muriel's Wedding, In Her Shoes and Little Miss Sunshine. I think Toni Collette is very talented. :)

I loved Toni Collette in "The Sixth Sense." I didn't realize she was Australian until I saw her in a few other films. My husband is from Philly and he said her accent was right on the money.
