This is a list of my favorite Hindi movies. I have watched all the movies listed here for more than once. I think that you will surely like to watch these movies.

All these movies were commercially successful, and most of them were super hits and blockbusters. They won prestigious film awards in various categories as well as appreciated by critics sooner or later.

Sholay (1975) is known as one of the greatest films in the history of Hindi movies. It had a poor response in beginning, but whoever watched it, did a mouth publicity. Because of viral publcity, Sholay became a super hit film, although the critics had responded it as a hopeless film. (Now they say that Sholay was a classic and the greatest Indian film in last 50 years!).

Sholay was the first film which ran for more than five years in one theater. It was also the first film to run for 50 consecutive weeks in 60 theaters and 25 consecutive weeks in more than 100 theaters throughout India.

The film is about a Police officer, two criminals and a cruel dacoit. The story is: The police officer (Thakur) hires the two criminals (Jai and Veeru) to capture the Dacoit (Gabbar Singh). But it was not an easy task What happens then? You should watch it on the screen.

Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994) is one of the great Hindi movies produced ever. It is a story of relationship between two families and a musical love story of Prem (Salman Khan) and Nisha (Madhuri Dixit). The film has a total number of 14 songs.

The film was commercially so successful that it broke the collection records of Sholay.

The film won Filmfare Award for Best Film, Filmfare Award for Best Director and Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

Cast: Madhuri Dixit (Nisha Chaudhary), Salman Khan (Prem), Mohnish Behl (Rajesh, elder brother of Prem), Renuka Shahane (Wife of Rajesh), Anupam Kher, Alok Nath and many others.

Lagaan is a 2001 blockbuster Bollywood movie.

It is a story of the villagers in the colonial British India. British rulers had imposed a high land tax on the villagers. The villagers requested to reduce the tax, British officers offered to play a cricket match, and if the villagers win, the tax taxes would be cancelled. The villagers accepted this offer. Then the film is about a thrilling cricket match. Rest of the story you have to watch on the screen.

Lagaan was directed by the famous director Ashutosh Gowarikar. Aamir Khan has played the role of the captain of the cricket team of the villagers.

Lagaan bagged the prestigious National Film Awards in 7 categories, including Best Popular Film, Best Music Direction, Best Male Playback Singer, Best Audiography, Best Lyrics, Best Costume Design and Best Art Direction. Moreover, Lagaan won 9 Filmfare Awards including Best Movie, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Story, Best Music Director, Best Lyricist etc. The film also won 9 IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) Awards. The film was ranked in The 100 Best Films Of World Cinema by Empire magazine.

ChuckDe India Means Come on India. This film is about Women's hockey team of India and its coach Kabir Khan. It is about how the coach turns the loser team into a world champion one.

The film won a number of awards, including the most prestigious National Film Award for Best Popular Film, Filmfare Awards- Critics Award For Best Movie, Best Actor Award, Best Action Award, Best Cinematographer Award and Best Editing Award, IIFA Awards for Best Movie, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound Recording,
Best Sound Re-Recording, Best Screenplay, Best Story. The film has won many other awards.

Saathiya (2002) is one of the best love stories from Bollywood. This film is about a guy (Aditya) and a girl (Suhani) who love with each other, and get married in spite of the opposition from their parents. But soon after the marriage the couple realizes that living is not easy. The couple suffers from many odds and problems and the love between them vanishes.

What happens in the end? You must watch it on the screen.

Rani Mukherjee won Filmfare Best Actress Award (Critic's Chice) for this movie.

Lage Raho Munna Bhai means Carry on Munna Bhai

Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006) is another film of Munna Bhai series. This film tells the viewers about Gandhian philosophy in humorous way.

Munnabhai, a less educated scoundrel of Mumbai is in love of the voice of a Radio Jockey Janhavi (Vidya Balan). His dream was to meet her. Once, the RJ announces a contest on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. Munna Bhai takes part in the contest and wins it in a tricky way. He gets an opportunity to meet the RJ. He tells the RJ that he is a professor of history with a speciality in Gandhian philosophy. The RJ asks Munna Bhai to present a lecture on Gandhi before a group.

Munna Bhai starts reading books on Gandhi to present the lecture and gets impressed by Gandhian philosophy. He starts to apply Gandhism, to which he calls Gandhigiri, in his own life and to solve problems of the people. All in an interesting, humorous and thrilling way.

The biggest achievement of Lage Raho Munna Bhai is that it successfully told the masses what actually Gandhian philosophy is. This is the first Hindi movie which was shown in United Nations. The film won four National Film Awards - Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, Best Supporting Actor, Best Screenplay and Best Lyrics. The film also won Filmfare Awards in four catagories - Critics Award for Best Movie, Best Story, Best Dialogue and Best Comedian. Further, it won IIFA Awards for Best Director,Best Supporting Actor Best Story, and Best Dialogue.

Taare Zameen Par (2007) is a story of an 8 year old boy Ishaan. Ishaan has a high power of imagination, but he is poor in academic performance. So his parents send him to a boarding school, where his teacher Nikumbh Sir suspects that Ishaan is suffering from Dyslexia. Then it is all about how the teacher helps Ishaan to overcome his disability.

Taare Zameen Par won many awards including the most prestigious National Film Award for Best Film on Family Welfare. and Filmfare Awards for Best Movie, Best Director, Best Story, Critics Award for Best Performance and Best Lyricist. The film won many other awards.

a Wednesday (2008) is a thrilling story about the 4 hours on a Wednesday in the life of a Police Commissioner.

A man comes to Mumbai Police Headquarters to lodge a complaint, and places a bag in the toilet. Then he disappears, and informs the Police Commissioner that he has placed bombs at five places in the city of Mumbai. He tails that the bombs will explode if the police do not release 4 militants who were in custody. The caller uses modern technology for communication. He uses a reporter of News channel to spread the demands. The police commissioner, after consulting with the Chief Minister, decides to release the militants. What happens then? Who was the caller in actual? Did he get success in his mission? This is a suspense story, so watch it on the screen.

The film received Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director, a National Film Award.

Rocket Singh Salesman of the Year (2009) is a story of a smart salesman (Harpreet Singh Bedi) in a Computer Assembly and Service company AYS. He had realized that sales success depends on customer satisfaction, but his boss and colleagues do not agree with him. So he starts his own company and operates it using the resources of AYS secretly. It is interesting to know what happens next.

Ranbir Kapoor, who played the salesman, won Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for his performance in this film.

3 Idiots

3 Idiots is a 2009 comedy film about three students of Engineering who shared same room in the college hostel.The film is all about the college life of engineering students, ragging by senior students, extreme disciplinary codes by the principal, difficult to understand teaching by the professors, restrictions from the principal on innovative ideas of the students and the 3 idiot students challenging all this. The story is based on Chetan Bhagat's book Five Point Someone – What not to do at IIT!

The film is one of the most popular Bollywood movies. This film made highest opening and weekend collections in India.

3 Idiots won the most prestigious National Film Awards in three categories: Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, Best Audiography and Best Lyrics. It also won 16 IIFA awards including Best Film, Best Director, Best Story etc., and 6 Filmfare Awards including Best Film, Best Director and Best Story.
