One of the best Korean Drama in 2011, City Hunter is an action drama portraying a story of Lee Yoon Sung aka City Hunter (played by Lee Min Ho) who is raised up by his father's friend with one mission: to kill five government officials who killed his father. He's told repeatedly that he cannot love anyone because the person who he loves could get hurt from these five officials.
But he ends up falling in love with Kim Na Na (Park Min Young) who endures hard life and she also wants to revenge to the people who kill her own parents.
Secret Garden - Genre: Romantic, Comedy, Family
Secret Garden is a romantic comedy but heartwarming heart-wrenching drama which will be loved by the whole family.
A story about Kim Joo Won (Hyun Bin) who has to deal with painful experience that he experienced inside an escalator when he was 21 years old and Gil Ra Im (Ha Ji Won), a stuntwoman, a tough girl who has to live and support herself.
Fate brought these two individuals together, and something magical happens when they visited a secret garden in Jeju Island! Magic which helped them to understand the deep feelings and the secrets they have.
Sungkyunkwan Scandal - Genre: Romantic, Comedy, Family
Sungkyunkwan Scandal is a 2010 Korean Drama which is still highly popular and is currently being aired in Indonesia.
The drama portrays a story of 4 students, 3 men and 1 woman in the Joseon dynasty who are studying in male-
Kim Yoon Hee (played by Park Min Young), a smart beautiful young woman who wants to be educated and to be employed in order to provide for her family and her sick brother. She disguised herself as male (pretended to be Kim Yoon Shik [her brother] and works at a local bookstore, she illegally helps the students from Sungkyunkwan too. Because she's really smart, she's asked to be an substitute test-taker to take the entrance exam at Sungkyunkwan and is chosen to enter the university.
Then, she meets with upright student Lee Sun Joon (Park Yoo Chun), cute adorable but mischievous student Gu Yong Ha (Song Joong-Ki) and her moody roommate Moon Jae Shin (Yoo Ah In).
A drama about how hard it was for a woman in the Joseon dynasty to fight for her freedom and her life; and how her dedication and perseverance can change her life & her family forever.
My Girlfriend is a Gumiho - Genre: Fantasy, Romantic, Comedy
My Girlfriend is a Gumiho or My Girlfriend is a Nine-tail-Fox is a 2010 Korean Drama which has been aired in overseas, such as Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and many other Asian countries.
A drama about a 500 years old beautiful young lady Mi Ho (played by Shin Min Ah) who has been trapped inside a painting for hundred years because she couldn't find a husband. One day, an wannabe-action-movie-star Cha Dae Woong (Lee Seung Gi) who run away from his grandfather, drew 9 tail fox on the painting and set Mi Ho alive. But he freaked out when he saw her for the first time and felt into a cliff. Mi Ho saved him by transferring her bead to his body and started to follow him around.
Beautiful love story of Mi Ho who has to be taught how to live in a modern world and a clueless immature Dae Woong who has to learn how to protect her. In the midst of all, there's Dong Joo (Noh Min-Woo), who is just like Mi Ho. He's trying to kill her at first, but when he realized that she resembles to his first love, he decides to help her to become a human.
So, will Mi Ho be a human and live happily ever after with Dae Woong?
You're Beautiful - Genre: Romantic, Comedy
You're Beautiful, a 2009 Korean Drama featuring a fictional band called A.N.JELL. It's a popular youth drama and one of my favorite drama.
Portraying a story of 4 young people Go Mi Nyu (played by Park Shin Hye), who has to disguised herself as her twin-brother Go Mi Nam to join band A.N.JELL. With Hwang Tae Kyung (Jang Geun Suk), Kang Shin Woo (Jung Yong Hwa) and Jeremy (Lee Hongki), she starts to discover a secret about her mother and has to fight hard when her fellow band-mates start falling for her.
So will her disguise as a he be revealed in the end? And who will get her heart? Will she be able to finally find her mother?
The Great Queen Seondeok - Genre: Historical
The Great Queen Seondeok is a 62 episodes Korean Historical Drama aired in South Korea in 2010. The drama portrays a story of how Deokman (played by Lee Yo Won) who has to live a tough life with Sohwa (Seo Young Hee) outside a palace and one day she's returned back to the Silla palace to fight for Mi-shil (Go Hyun Jung) who has burning desire to ascend to the throne.
Throughout her journey to become The Great Queen Seondeok, Deokman has a sweet-bitter life journey. First of all, her brief relationship with her twin sister Princess Cheonmyeong (Park Ye-Jin) - they didn't know that they're sisters and when they did, they had sweet memorable days spending together as sisters. Unfortunately Princess Cheonmyeong's killed.
Second, she has to choose between two men in her life: Kim Yushin (Uhm Tae Woong) who trained her since she was young; and Bidam (Kim Nam Gil) who saved her life but ended up became her enemy.
Third, she has to proof that she's worthy to be the Queen of Silla dynasty.
Brilliant Legacy - Genre: Family, Romantic
Brilliant Legacy or Shining Inheritance is a highly popular family Korean Drama in 2009 with the rating surpassed 47%!
This drama portrays a story of Hwan (played by Lee Seung Gi), a spoiled man who has a deep scar of losing his father in front of his eyes when he was young. Noone in his family knew why his father passed away, the key to his accident is locked inside Hwan's heart for many years.
His grandmother who is the owner of a very successful beef soup restaurants; called him back from US to Korea. On his way back, he met with Eun Sung (Han Hyo Joo). By fate, they switched their bags.
One day, Eun Sung saved Hwan's grandmother and she inherited her restaurants and her assets to Eun Sung. To encourage Hwan to grow up, his grandmother asked him to work at one of her restaurant and challenge him to raise up the revenue by 20%. Eun Sung is also working at the same branch and they both help each other to achieve this impossible mission.
Eun Sung's cheerful personality help to break the ice on Hwan's heart and they grow closer, fall in love with each other.
Coffee Prince - Genre: Romantic, Comedy
Coffee Prince is a story of Choi Han Kyul (Gong Yoo) who takes and run a rundown old coffee shop and learn how to take responsibility to turn this "unprofitable shop" into a successful coffee shop.
City Hall - Genre: Romantic, Comedy
City Hall portrays a story of Shin Ma Rae (Kim Sun Ah). A great coffee maker, she met with Jo Gook (Cha Seung Won), the deputy mayor.
She entered a beauty pageant competition to pay off her credit card debt; however, when she won, she realized that the mayor got the money. So in front of city hall, she protested and finally got the money back on her pocket. She's then being nominated as a mayor.
My Lovely Sam Soon - Genre: Romantic Comedy
My Lovely Sam Soon is still one of my favorite drama. It's one of the Korean Drama which has successfully achieve a rating of 50%!
A story about Kim Sam Soon (played by Kim Sun Ah), a baker who has a dream of owning her own bakery. Her life journey is pretty hard, she broke up with her boyfriend and was unemployed. One day, she met with Hyun Jin Heon (Hyun Bin). They work together in a French restaurant, but Jin Hyeon is really rude and they both are just like water & oil; always fight whenever they meet.
When Sam Soon urgently needs money, she pretends to be Jin Hyeon's girlfriend so she can get that money. During this time, the feelings they have with each other grow and they both fall in love.
