Trailer Park Boys (TPB)

Updated on February 23, 2013

The Trailer Park Boys - Ricky, Julian and Bubbles

The Trailer Park Boys is a very unique and hilarious Canadian comedy featuring Julian, Ricky, and Bubbles (as portrayed by Jean Paul Tremblay, Robb Wells and Mike Smith) as the misguided main characters, affectionately referred to as "the boys." Come take a tour of the wonderfully white trash Sunnyvale Trailer Park as we learn about this comical cast including J-Rock and the Rock Pile, Mr. Lahey the Trailer Park Supervisor, Randy the weekend Trailer Park Supervisor, Phil "Philadelphia" Collins, Sarah, Lucy, Cory and Trevor and much more.

As any fan of Rickyisms would know, make my words--it's all about supply and command. And don't mess with Bubbles' kitties, especially if they're enjoying a stay at the Kitty Land Love Center. On with the TPB!

Trailer Park Boys Overview

Trailer Park Boys Series, Trailer Park Boys Synopsis

Trailer Park Boys is an outrageous comedy filmed in "mockumentary" style. Created and directed by Mike Clattenburg, the series focuses on

"the boys" Julian, Ricky, Bubbles and several other residents of Sunnyvale Trailer Park. Trailer Park Boys premiered in 2001 on the Showcase televsion network and lasted for 7 seasons, wrapping up in 2007. The final episode of the series, "Say Goodbye To the Bad Guys," aired as a special in 2008. Two movies have been released, "Trailer Park Boys the Movie" in 2006 and "Countdown to LIquor Day" which was released in 2009.

Today the cast is touring, doing live performances of the gang's over the top and purposely crass misadventures. If you happen to run into any of the actors in person, it's said that they often remain in character, adding to the false reality of the show.

Trailer Park Boys Characters

Trailer Park Boys cast, Trailer Park Boys actors

Trailer Park Boys features some of the most original, colorful characters on film. In no particular order:

* Julian (played by John Paul Tremblay) - The muscular, charismatic and level-headed ringleader.

* Ricky (played by Robb Wells) - The often confused and not so bright sidekick to Julian.

* Bubbles (played by Mike Smith) -- Zany comic relief and lover of kitties.

* Jim Lahey (played by John Dunsworth) -- Trailer Park Supervisor, always trying in vain to relive his glory days as a police officer.

* Randy (played by Patrick Roach) -- Weekend Trailer Park Supervisor and assistant to Mr. Lahey.

* J-Roc (played by Jonathan Torrents) -- White rapper trying to make his way in the rap game. Also leader of "The Roc Pile."

* Cory and Trevor (played by Cory Bowles and Michael Jackson) -- The expendable fall guys for Ricky's and Julian's illegal schemes. They desperately want the boys' acceptance.

Trailer Park Boys Plot

Trailer Park Boys storyline, Trailer Park Boys Showcase

For the most part, each new season of Trailer Park Boys followed the same basic pattern (which is in no way a bad thing): Ricky, Julian and Bubbles get released from jail then try to devise illegal schemes to make it big so they don't have to continue breaking the law and end up in jail all over again. Julian can always be seen with Rum and Coke on the rocks in hand while Ricky sports his trademark track pants and old torn up shirts. Bubbles...well, you simply need to watch to understand.

Typically, the boys' delusions of grandeur are foiled by Trailer Park Supervisor Mr. Lahey and his shirtless cohort Randy. If a situation escalates and becomes physical, Randy strips off his excessively tight pants to enable him to become more limber during a fight. Suffice it to say this is uncomfortable at best, especially for his opponent and any unfortunate onlookers.

Trailer Park Boys to Do Third Film - Update Oct 2012

According to Canada's "Herald Arts & Life", "the boys" (Ricky, Julian and Bubbles) have signed on to film a third Trailer Park Boys feature film. Actors John Paul Tremblay, Robb Wells and Mike Smith will reunite with director and series creator Mike Clattenburg with production slated to begin in March 2013.

"We are all extremely pleased to be working together again on another Trailer Park Boys film," says producer Barrie Dunn, in a news release. "Although it's been four years since our last film, Ricky, Julian and Bubbles are as popular as ever, even expanding internationally, and we're delighted to bring them back to the big screen."

Originally the concept of creator/director Clattenburg, Trailer Park Boys began as a short film starring Tremblay (Julian) and Wells (Ricky). It debuted to rave reviews at the 1999 Atlantic Film Festival. The premise: a camera crew chronicles the boys' adventures living in the Sunnyvale Trailer Park in Dartmouth.

Recruiting Smith (Bubbles) to complete the haphazard trio, the idea spun off a mockumentary style show, which ran for seven seasons and produced two TV specials on Showcase. The show was Showcase's highest rated Canadian program and airs in over 15 countries. Guest stars included Rush's Alex Lifeson, Sebastian Bach and Rita MacNeil.

Ricky, Julian and Bubbles' first full length film Trailer Park Boys: The Movie hit theatres in 2007 and the follow up Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day served as a finale to the series in 2009.

As with the two previous Trailer Park Boys features, Alliance Films will distribute this film in Canada.

Trailer Park Boys Make an Appearance on Code Monkeys

The boys (Ricky, Julian and Bubbles) make a cameo appearance on G4TV's hit series Code Monkeys. In the final episode entitled "Car Robber Sunnyvale," both Grand Theft Auto IV and Trailer Park Boys are affectionately spoofed.

In this episode, Dave's new video game is a huge hit. As a result, the Russian mobster that he hired as a voice actor wants a bigger cut of the profits. As any fan of Code Monkeys can probably guess, Dave refuses and poor Jerry loses his 8-bit hand (and nearly his sanity) in the process.

This looks like a hoot! The photo of the TPBs with the security uniforms reminds me of Reno 911. If it's half as good as that, I'll love it!

My son told me about this series, but I've never watched it. But I did want to tell you, you did a very good job on a starting lens. I encourage you to keep writing on Squidoo, I'm sure you'll attract a large following. Thanks for sharing.
