Vash the Stampede - $$60,000,000,000

Updated on September 2, 2009

Vash the Stampede

Vash the Stampede is a sentient Plant, an energy source created by humans, known as "The Humanoid Typhoon" due to the destruction which surrounds him. He and his brother, Knives, are born on a ship that is part of a fleet to extend the human race. They are raised by Rem, who instills upon Vash the philosophy that every being deserves life, and Vash takes it to the extreme by always attempting to save everyone. Knives eventually causes the fleet to crash, which kills Rem and many other humans.

The $$60,000,000,000 Man

He is initially discovered by Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson, representatives from an insurance agency investigating claims made due to damages caused by the mysterious Humanoid Typhoon, hence his title, The $$60,000,000,000 Man. He escapes while Milly and Meryl eventually learn that Vash is actually the person they are assigned to track and the story continues from that point on.

His Weapons of Choice

Vash habitually carries a .45 caliber revolver, which fuses with Vash and transforms into an "Angel Arm", a large cannon capable of destroying cities, in the anime. The arm is a natural part of a plant in the manga, and it can be manipulated into various forms. Using the power slowly causes Vash's life to drain, which causes his hair to slowly turn black. Vash later learns better control his power to form smaller cannons and defensive feathers, though his hair continues to grow darker until almost completely black. The engraving on the side of the gun describes it is a ".45 Long Colt AGL Arms Factory" with wings around the "AGL" as in angel.

The Angel Arm is Vash's ultimate weapon. Upon activation, his right arm transforms into a weapon powerful enough to destroy entire cities with a single blast, but does not harm any people in the process. Vash fears the Angel Arm's potential for destruction, and knows little about how to use it.

His Personality

Vash often acts in foolish manners to make people feel unthreatened and to hide his identity. He often says "This world is made of love and peace" which is complimented by his flashing of the 'v' sign. Vash's reputation as "The Humanoid Typhoon" is legendary, however, when those around him that he considers friends are threatened or in danger, Vash shows complete focus and control. He also refuses to kill any of his opponents, which makes him suffer at the hands of a number of enemies. As a result, he is covered in scars from not quickly dispatching his enemies, but rather trying to his best to not kill them and he suffers because of it. He also has an obsessive love of doughnuts, and engages in lecherous behavior.

Abilities

Vash has shown the ability to be able to dodge bullets and melee attacks in a supernatural fashion. He is also very adept at changing the paths of bullets, such as during a gun duel competition where Vash was able to prevent the deaths of many of the competitors by throwing rocks at key moments which knocked the bullets of their lethal courses. He's also known to be smarter and stronger than most of humankind.

Cybernetic Arm

Vash lost his arm when Knives shot it off using a different revolver, after which Vash stole Knive's black Angel Arm pistol years earlier. He now has a cybernetic replacement, which also conceals an integrated firearm. It is initially a powerful semiautomatic pistol that is later upgraded to a fully automatic submachine gun.

Recommended

After watching a lot of anime, Trigun has always been one to stand out. It has a lovable cast of characters, some witty, some funny, and some serious. Vash is an enjoyable character to watch, as he should be since he's the focus of the show.

I really liked this lens. It's interesting. However, you may want to explain more about...what...Vash is. Very well done...and I might want to watch the show now. Five stars.
