Welcome to Weird Words Starting With 'V'

This light-hearted lens is devoted to little lost locutions, better known as weird words that have rarely seen the light of day.

Given the fact that the English language now has more than a million words under its belt, it's not surprising that there are more than a few words that have gone missing due to lack of usage, or the fact that few folks even know they exist.

Today, we are featuring a few harmless if not hilarious weird words that begin with the letter 'V'.

The best way to honor these words is to find a place to stick them into casual conversation, or perhaps spicingup one of your cryptic electronic missives, by inserting them into an inconspicuous spot and make your reader scratch his/her cerebellum.

VALETUDINARIAN

valetudinarian n. q person who is obsessed with some ailment

Mrs. Jezebel Pettifogger, an English teacher in the town of Lower Piddle on the Marsh in Gloucestershire suggested that perhaps the verbose valetudinarian who frequently wore fanciful forms of haberdashery and scurried about the stacks of the library muttering under his breath might suffering from a case of irritable vowel disorder.

vexillologist n. a collector of flags

VORAGINOUS

voraginous adj. pertaining to something which devours everything

Suggested Use In A Sentence:

As the voraginous vulture contemplated his navel, pondered about life in the slow lane, and wondered if there was a parallel universe out there somewhere in the cosmos of space and time, he realized that he just wasn't in the mood to eat his words or anyone else's today.
