Why Mika Makes Me Happy
I came across Mika by accident. I was watching American Idol and the contestant Josiah Lemming did a rendition of a song called Grace Kelly that I had never heard before. I thought the song was beautiful so I decided to look up the original version and discovered Mika. I started watching all of his music video's and loved each one more than the last. This lead me to buy his album Life in Cartoon Motion. It's one of my most prized possessions. I don't know what is is but his music just makes me happy. His voice is so upbeat and melodic. He reminds me a lot of a young Freddie Mercury. Whenever I need to be put in a good mood I always pop in my Mika CD.
Michael Holbrook Penniman Jr grew up in London and Paris. He had a tramatic childhood that included lots of bullying and his father getting kidnapped. He actually stopped talking at one point when he was a child and had to be taken out of school for an extended period of time. Luckily for us he found an out let in music. He studied at the Royal College of Music in London. Life in Cartoon Motion was his first full length album that would later win him coveted Brit Award. His hit Grace Kelly was on this album. Mika actually wrote this song while he was really angry with a record company because they wanted him to change his style and sound like someone he wasn't. I guess he showed them because it ending up being his most popular songs. I think all of his fans would agree he doesn't need to change a thing.
