Are you Zombie Apocalypse Ready?

Updated on November 6, 2014

Zombies have been a staple ghoulish creature in literature and film. It has not lost its allure for moviegoers and avid readers.

We have seen a spike in the use of the zombie theme in pop culture today; in fact one of the most highly anticipated American television series is about a zombie apocalypse.

The Walking Dead, which is based on the comic book series of the same name, will have the premiere of its 5th Season on October 12, 2014. It is amazing how fans are so eager for the start of this season give that it has been a year since the last season ended.

If you haven’t caught the zombie bug yet you might want to start watching this and other movies like 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, Abraham Lincoln VS. Zombies, Alien Dead, and Dawn of the Dead.

The options to choose from are endless which is really a testament that zombies are here to stay.

Part of the allure of zombies might be how believable the origins of these monsters are, usually from an unexplained virus that kills people and turns them into the famous flesh-eating zombies.

This disease spreads so quickly that it destroys the foundations of society and we end up with the post apocalyptic world greatly depicted in screen adaptations.

The probability of this coming to life is so great that lot’s of people anticipate the spread of the zombie inducing disease.

Heck some people even think the Ebola virus is going to be it. With this in mind, it would be great to make preparations in the unlikely (or maybe likely) occurrence of a zombie apocalypse.

Zombies could either be slow walkers like the ones in The Walking Dead or they could be really freaking fast like the ones in the 2013 movie, World War Z.

I would not think it is cowardice for us to hope that if this so happens we would have the slow moving undead (See also Warm Bodies, 2013) but I guess this would allow us least some sort of advantage.

If the zombies end up as runners we all might as well just give up now (or at least have someone close to you that is a slower runner just to have greater odds of surviving). Kidding aside, this article is supposed to get you ready for whatever type of zombie we end up facing.

First of all, get fit. You have to remember that once the outbreak starts there will be endless running, hiding, and zombie killing. These things look really good in movies but require a lot of strength and endurance in real life.

You need to get ready for lots of action. Next up, you got to learn combat. This means at least knowing some basic throw downs or maybe go all out martial artist.

Unlike in the movies we don't have access to guns and heavy machinery but just in case it would be great to go practice at a firing range.

Will you be ready if the moment comes?

The next thing you need to do is to prepare your emergency survival kit. This bag could contain a few sets of clothes, water, protein bars, a portable radio, a Swiss knife, some matches, a map, and some makeshift weapons.

You can add a few things on the list that you think could help you survive just make sure you can still carry it. The zombies might come when you’re fast asleep so it should be ready and near you just in case.

The most important step in preparation is to plan. You may involve some people that believe in the impending apocalypse too. Map out your city’s escape routes, shopping malls, groceries, and transportation plans.

Seek out your best option for a meeting point and always have contingencies. Being prepared would ensure that you will be with company and would greatly increase your chance of survival no doubt. Just always be alert and have a presence of mind in order to make well-informed decisions.

If you were really all out in preparing, it would be wise if you could probably educate yourself on some science and chemistry. Who knows, you might be able to come up with the cure and put an end to all of it a.s.a.p.

It would be ideal to think that a zombie apocalypse is far from likely but it pays to be ready to kick some undead ass. So after you’re done packing go and start running as much as you can, you’ll be doing a lot of it when the time comes.
