10 Great Things My Mom Taught Me
I know it ain't mother's day or anything, but it is my mom's birthday today. So, I made up this list and wrote them in her birthday card. It's a list of the things she has told me since I was a kid. I've never forgotten her words, and the values she instilled in me that helped in becoming the person I am today.
Sure, like most kids, I just kinda nodded my head and went, "Uh, huh...uh, huh," but over the years, I've found that these lessons she was trying to teach me had sunk in a lot more than I had thought. I'm always grateful for her parenting skills, which there weren't so many handbooks written on the subject then like there are today. Thanks, mom!
"Class isn't about champagne or what car you drive. Being a classy person is how you treat others."
"Other people's love are like ships that come and go, but love for yourself will always be the harbor that brings them in."
"Always work hard, but work smart, too."
"Don't compare yourself to others, and don't ever let anyone define who you are."
"Always be prepared for the worst so you can live your life for the best."
"Sometimes saying nothing is better than saying something just for 'something's sake'."
"Always do what you think is right. It's you who has to look at himself in the mirror everyday."
"It's the things we don't do that we end up regretting most."
"Be happy. Nobody's gonna do it for you."

Your mom sounds wonderful and wise -- great sayings!
I'm sure she'd appreciate you writing of her beautiful life lessons!
I have come to the conclusion my mom was a very smart and loving person. It took me a while to figure out not many words or actions from her went astray. Thank you for sharing this beautiful tribute to your mom
I love hubs like this one; very nice job and you have a great mom!
Great hub! These are wonderful, beautiful sayings. There were definitely years where I shrugged off my mom's advice (I probably still do on occasion) but there are things that really stuck with me, too.
I love my mom and still depend on her to be the quick, limited person she always was. It sounds like you love your mom too.
