5 Things I learned as a Nanny

Updated on May 2, 2017

1. The definition of tired

I thought I knew what tired was, having two years of college and all-nighters under my belt, but no! I discovered a whole new level of tired. I remember on my first day I came home around 7 o’clock and as soon as I laid down I was out cold. I slept through the whole night like a rock. Kids are full of energy and you need just as much if not more to be able to keep up with them, which brings me to another lesson.

2. Kids are FUN!!!

Nannying was the best job I’ve ever had. I enjoyed every moment I spent with the kids I nannied. They made me laugh every day. We played, we made jokes we had fun, but it wasn’t always fun and games. There were times where they just didn’t want to listen or behave. Bring me to my next lesson… patience

3. PATIENCE!!!!!!

When working with kids patience is essential. Kids will have their bad days sometimes and that’s ok, as a nanny you just have to be patient. Or with homework sometimes they’ll get frustrated but again patience is key.

4. Multitasking and organizational skills

The kids I watched were involved in many activities, so I had to learn to multitask and be organized enough to get them to their activities and feed them and have all their homework done before we left.

5. I am excited to be a mother

I am excited for the day I get to be a mom. Nannying has taught me a lot about raising a child and watching them learn and grow. I’m excited to see a mini me running around learning and watching it grow,
