A Short Reflection of My Journey
A Quality Teacher
Eric J. Specht February 25,2013
I began to take interest in teaching for a career when my science teacher gave me more than just knowledge. When I was in junior high, my family was going through a difficult time. I did not really understand the impact it would have on me then, but Mr. Budd, my seventh grade science teacher, was aware of the potential difficulties that would affect both my identity and learning developments.
Instead of focusing on his professional job as a teacher, which through my perspective lens at the time was merely a person with the authority to assign painstaking mental tasks, he extended a friendly hand. Although he could not change the events that took place, Mr. Budd was available as a consultant and more importantly, as a friend. Without Mr. Budd’s extended care and interest, I am not sure where I would be today.
However, because Mr. Budd was a kindhearted teacher, I was able to press on. He inspires me to be an achiever and an educator. As a prospective educator, I will carry out Mr. Budd’s genuine nature and aid my students beyond the narrow scope of academic attainments and into the range of learning and developmental growths.
