Sleep Over And Birthday Party Ideas

Updated on June 6, 2018

I live on a homestead in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Writing and reading are my passion.

I recently returned from my ten year old grandson's birthday party, which turned out to be a great success.

It reminded me of my daughter's sleepover party for her tenth birthday party. She invited three of her best friends as we could not accommodate more children. When her friends arrived they were taken to say hello to the horses. Two of the girls had slept over before so were familiar with our home. They were all horse mad and promises had to be made that they could all ride early the following morning, as soon as the sun was up.

The kids invitation for the sleep over was for 2 pm on her birthday. Her best friend came early in the morning and she joined us for the trip to town. The girls enjoyed themselves buying last minute goodies for their sleepover. We also took them to watch the dolphin show. The dolphins are just so clever to play ball with their trainer. After a walk on the beach we all went back home.

At home the girls helped me with the preparations. We had a table near the pool where the whole family and the three visitors could swim and enjoy the birthday snacks.

Then the girls had pizza, cupcakes, chips, chocolates and soda which were taken to my daughter’s room for their sleepover party. It was a lovely summer’s day and the pool party for family and friends turned out great.

Having a combined family and sleepover party was a great idea, as her brother and his friends did not feel left out. Later the girls left for their private sleepover. My daughter had received nail varnish and make up to play around with as part of her birthday presents. They did each other’s nails and experimented with the makeup. They did each other’s hair and the giggles and laughter that came from the room assured us that they were having a great time.

Dancing and Singng Along

Having Their Own Disco

The kids had changed the TV Room into a disco. They had great fun as they took turns being the singer, while the others danced. What a fun-filled evening was had by all. With careful planning a party does not have to cost a fortune. Planning the entertainment and activities needs to be done with your child and at least one of her best friends. After all the party won't be a success unless they are happy with the arrangements. After the disco they went to the bedroom to watch their scary movie.

Horse Riding Along The Beach

Horse Riding To End a Great Sleep-Over

I had let them choose a movie for their party and of course they wanted a scary movie. Eventually everything went quiet and all we heard was the sound of the movie. They had put off the light and soon we heard ‘Oh!’ and other terrified screams.

After the movie they fell asleep with the light on. The kids really enjoyed their party. The next morning, they were up early. Surprisingly as they had gone to bed very late. But then, the horses were waiting, and that was a big attraction. They helped themselves to breakfast and then ran out to the stables.

They went riding along the beach and came back full of energy and starving after their gallop. Luckily there was still a great deal of leftovers from the previous evening. I prepared sandwiches with the leftover ham and they just could not stop talking about the fun they had. That was the most successful party I ever prepared and we did the same for my son which was also a great success.
