Facebook No More!
If you think that Facebook is going to expose your kid to too many 'sexting' or inappropriate behaviors, you are in the right place.
In today's world of quick technology and the need for social network, you cannot really deny kids from that. You can however, limit the social networking sites that your kid visits.
Growing up back in the 1990s, the internet just got started and there weren't too many social networks out there. As a kid, I was pretty free to roam the internet with no supervision since my parents were not skilled with computers. They still aren't to this day. I visited porn sites as young as 13. It really was a destructive habit. Now that I am older and finally able to get out of the addiction, I can totally see why parents want to limit their kids on the internet. That is why I created this article, for the sake of allowing parents to apply some damage control, here are some websites like Facebook for kids.
kids.aol.com is focused on making sure the content there is suitable for kids only. To sign up with them, it will require your credit card information, to ensure that they follow the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act(COPPA). You can also cancel your account at anytime.
They do have a lot of pop culture news on the website. They also have games suitable for kids, photos and educational articles about various subjects. They are definitely a trusted website for your kids to explore.
Crom Social is a new site that was launched in 2012. It is a social network like Facebook, but for kids. Once your kid signs up, the friends request can only be approved by the parent. Report cards are sent to the parents to monitor what their children are up to.
The site also focuses on "saying no to bullies", "no to smoking" and "no to drugs". They also made the sign up harder than most websites. It requires a valid home address, phone number and email. After that, it requires electronic signature. Finally, it then gets approved by a current Grom Social adult and child member.
They definitely put a lot of effort in keeping kids out of harm's way.
Your Sphere is a cool kids social networking site. This is a site for kids who would like to share and voice their interests. With parents really concern about their children 'sexting' on sites like Facebook, Your Sphere tries to educate parents on what apps on smart phones that they should be aware about.

This is a social game for kids that enjoy Disney characters. Even though it is obvious enough, I will still tell you that this game is created by Disney~! I used to watch plenty of the Disney cartoon shows like Duck Tales and Duckwing Duck. In fact, Donald Duck was my favorite. This game is free to play, but you get some added perks for being a member.
Giant Hello is a website focused on gaming for kids. Kids love to play games. So, this is a great place to let your kids visit. The games that they provide will prevent them from visiting Facebook or other adult social networking sites. This site is definitely suitable for kids 7-13.

Just make sure you keep Pedo Bear out of this website.
These are some good websites like Facebook for kids under 13. They really put effort in making sure that your kid gets their privacy protected. No system is foolproof in preventing your kids from 'sexting' or learning bad behaviors, but they do help lessen the bad exposure out there. You have to appreciate what they do, even if it is not perfect. Ultimately, you as the parent, has to monitor what your kid does online.
