The Young Lady and the Frog

Updated on March 23, 2014

One of the things that I remember about my father the most was his sense of humor. His favorite thing in the world was to make people laugh. Although towards the end of his life he was severely depressed, he still managed to make people laugh and he would come up with the best jokes. This is probably a very old joke but my father told me this joke when I was about 18 or 19 years old and since my dad had been in the military, I’m sure that it is where this joke must have originated but here it is.

One day this pretty young lady was walking in the woods and she comes across a frog sitting on a lily pad. The frog calls to the girl and says, “Hello young lady can you please help me”? The young girl asked the frog how she could possibly help him. The frog explained that he was actually an officer in the military and had been cursed by an old witch and she had turned him into a frog. He pleaded with her to help him so that he could return to the life that he had before he was cursed. He made the young girl feel sorry for him The spell would be broken if a young lady took him home and let him sleep on her bed for a whole night, and in the morning he would return to being an officer in the military. The young girl was hesitant but decided to do it as she told herself she had nothing to lose.

The next morning the young girl’s mother comes into her room to wake her up to have breakfast and sees a very handsome officer lying next to her daughter in bed. The mother was in shock to see a man in her daughter’s bed and you know to this day the mother still doesn’t believe the story about the frog.

Fun! I thought you were going to tell a dirty joke, haha, that's the only kind I ever heard in the military! Handsome? Must have been a Marine, that's why Marines are the first to fight, every other branch the guys are so ugly they scare the enemy to death before we get a chance to shoot them! Cheers

hahahaha! Good one! Haven't heard exactly that version before. Funny! Your father sounds like a most loveable guy.

My dad didn't tell jokes (Mother did!) but when he heard or read something humorous, he practically shook the rafters with his laughter! He liked subtle humor, too. His favorite response to a really "good one" was, "That's RICH!" I always think of that remark when I hear a really good one.

I appreciate your sharing your memory of your dad, LadyJane!
