Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit Baby Shower

Updated on March 7, 2014

Plan The Best Peter Rabbit Baby Shower Ever!

Fans of Peter Rabbit will love a Beatrix Potter baby shower. Beatrix Potter, the author of the Peter Rabbit series, was a much beloved British children’s author. Her style was filled with cottage charm and a hearkening back to a quieter yesterday of bunnies in the garden and squirrels collecting nuts.

You can recreate the warmth of Beatrix Potter’s style with a baby shower that centers around her storybook characters like Peter Rabbit, Squirrel Nutkin, Jeremy Puddleduck and more. If you’re not really familiar with the books and characters, take a stroll through the library’s children’s section and familiarize yourself with these cute mischief makers.

Buy Invitations Online

Baby Shower Invitations

When it comes to the baby shower invitations, you have several options ranging in price from super cheap to expensive (upwards of $3 per invitation). Many online stores including eBay sell Peter Rabbit or Beatrix Potter themed invitations that can be fully customized with all of the baby shower details. Just be sure to order from someone reputable and understand the pricing structure. Also be sure to make sure that envelopes are included because the invites can be odd sizes.

Alternatively, you can make your own invitations if you are crafty. Check out the video below which shows how to utilize Peter Rabbit rubber stamps to create unique and beautiful invitations. Simply add the shower information such as the location, time, address, date, and gift instructions for an adorable one-of-a-kind invitation.

Decoration & Food Suggestions

It’s so easy to find Beatrix Potter tableware. Just check out the huge selection at Amazon below. Alternatively, you could just buy more generic bunny baby shower supplies such as plates, napkins, cups, etc. That said, you can use paper goods pattered with the easily recognizable characters and be half done with your décor right there but why stop when you’re just getting started?

Why not throw a tea party? Beatrix Potter was known for her English ways that included the custom of afternoon tea. Many stores carry porcelain tea pots decorated with Ms. Potter’s characters. So, it’s not at all hard to find a centerpiece for your baby shower. Collect some cups as well. Discount stores like TJ Maxx and Home Goods often carry these for a few dollars each.

Pick up some figurines of the most known Potter characters. Search eBay or even dollar and discount stores. You’ll find many adorable figures that you can set out on the table. Set up your tea on mismatched china plates that you can find for under one dollar at a thrift store. Have finger sandwiches, tea cakes, petit fours and of course, many pots of tea. One easy way to do a party for many people and still serve a charming tea is to brew the tea in a high capacity coffee urn, the type you’d see at a cafeteria. You can get these at discount stores as well. Brew the tea in a big pot and then transfer it to smaller china pots so guests can help themselves. You won’t have to drag the big urn out of the kitchen and everyone will love the dainty tea pots.

Try having special iced cut-out cookies made to look like Peter Rabbit and have them decorated with hard Royal icing so that you can wrap them in cellophane for guests to take home as edible baby shower favors. Display them in a gardening wicker basket on the table so they look pretty the whole day.

Another nice touch is to put some clean gardening boots, like bright yellow rain boots, on a table with flowers arranged in them. It looks very English and very cheerful. Smaller kids’ boots could also work if you have more than one table you need to create centerpieces for. Just make your arrangements shorter. In both cases, ensure flowers have a cottage feel to give a more country look to the décor.

Peter Rabbit Cupcakes

Baby Shower Cake Ideas

No baby shower is complete without a cake, cupcakes or a baby cookie bouquet that matches the shower theme. When it comes to the dessert, you again have several options. If you have a great local baker, you can have them whip up a Beatrix Potter inspired cake or cupcakes like the ones shown to the right. This baker made the book characters come to life on top of each cupcake by making them out of fondant.

Alternatively, you can bake cupcakes at home and then just purchase some of the Beatrix Potter cupcakes flags, paper cups or the entire cupcake baking kit including the stand from Amazon (see above). Just make your favorite flavor and Voila! you've got an impressive and yummy dessert for the shower.
