How do I Protect My Child And Myself.

Children need to know that it is okay to report anyone who makes them feel uncomfortable. Many children believe that will get in trouble for allowing someone to touch them inappropriate. They walk away feeling shameful. In reality the shame is not their burden to carry. Free your children from such shame. What exploits a child is their inability to report the violation.

Children are innocent by nature. Monitor what they watch on television. In a world which promotes sexuality through music videos, commercials and movies your child's programs should be studied with caution. Make sure that negative influences involving sex is not being displayed to your child.

5 Tips to Protect Your Child From Sexual Abuse

1. Talk.

Talk often with your child and set a tone of understanding. Talking openly and directly will let your child know that it’s okay to talk to you when they have questions. take time out to listen to your children.

2. Educate.
Teach your child key safety principles. For instance:

  • Teach children the names of their body parts so that they have the language to ask questions and express concerns about those body parts.
  • If your child is uncomfortable or if someone is touching them, s/he should
    tell a trusted adult immediately.
  • Let your children know that if someone is touching them or talking to
them in ways that make them uncomfortable that it remain a secret.

3. Strengthen. Your Child
Your child should know that she/he has the right to peak up if they are uncomfortable, or if someone is touching them. It’s okay to say “no” even to adults they know and family members.

4. Implement.
Implement Internet safety protocols, and parental controls through platforms such as the Google Family Safety Center. Work with older children to set guidelines for who they can talk to online, and what information can be shared. For instance, be cautious when leaving status or away messages online and when using the "check-in" feature on Facebook or Foursquare.

5. Educate Yourself.
Educate yourself about the warning signs of childhood sexual abuse. Know what to look for, and the best way to respond.

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

Hi Beth! This is so true. I think the abuser feels ashamed of their actions and they have a human reminder of they have done. Many abusive people try to cover up their actions by committing fatal crimes. But one day they will have to stand before a judge that will show no mercy.

Good hub swilliams. I always thought it was interesting that David's son desired his sister to the point that he could think of nothing else, then after he raped her, the Bible said he despised her. I wonder how many little children have to go thru the horror of being molested, then have to go thru the unbelievable confusion of feeling hated by their abuser. I can't think of anything more awful. Heartbreaking.
