Brain Rules Seminars in Asia

Updated on July 19, 2012

See what I learned from the seminar here.

John Medina, author of the two bestselling books Brain Rules and Brain Rules for Baby, is in Malaysia, and he’s giving two seminars this Saturday 14th July 2012! I only glimpsed the ad while driving, and for some strange reason, I got the idea that the seminars were a free promotional event for his books. Duh. They cost RM399 each! I’d still really like to go though, being a fan and owner of both books, and found that there are several ways to get a discount.

In fact, according to the registration website, there are supposedly 6 ways to get a discount:

  1. Registering before 6th July 2012 saves RM100.
  2. The Soundway offer saves RM300.
  3. Gold Customers save RM120.
  4. Platinum Customers save RM150.
  5. Capital FM Customers save RM150.
  6. Mix FM Customers save RM120.

Unfortunately, 6th July 2012 has long since passed, Soundway costs RM790 for an adult, and I have no idea how to be a Gold/Platinum/Capital FM/Mix FM Customer.

Fortunately, the registration website lied. There's a 7th secret way to get a discount, and that's by using the eVouchers from ParenThots. Yay internet! Never pay full price for anything!

To use the ParenThots eVoucher to save RM120 per seminar, just enter the Promo Code BRMY878P, which is valid until Friday 13th July 2012.

Nevertheless, this still means that attending both seminars would cost me RM558. Plus I’m not sure if they’d both be relevant to me. Being in the Early Childhood industry, my first preference would be the Brain Rules for Parents and Educators seminar. But the Brain Rules for Real Learning sounds good too! It “promises an evening well spent!”.

If only there was a special "Attend For Free" category for people who own both books, are attending both seminars, promote the event online AND are even willing to sacrifice their weekly session of Saturday morning basketball! Let me know if there is!

Anyway details for both seminars are:

Brain Rules for Parents and Educators

The best way to raise and educate smart, happy children from 0 through age 5. This program is destined to revolutionise parenting and early education. It will separate myth from fact, addressing some of the common myths such as:

  • Playing Mozart to your womb will improve your baby’s future math scores.
  • Exposing your infant or toddler to language DVDs will boost his vocabulary.
  • To boost their brain power, children need French lessons by age 3 and a room piled with “brain-friendly” toys and a library of educational DVDs.
  • Telling children they are smart will boost their confidence.
  • Children somehow find their own happiness.
