A Letter To My Ex-Husband
I remember the first time I saw you. You were the most handsome man I had ever seen. Your dark curly hair, deep chocolate eyes and slow smile made my heart skip a beat. I decided right then that you would be mine all mine.
I remember bringing a friend's gift to your door, knowing she was not home next door, but knowing you would be. I remember you answering in only a towel. I decided right then that you were DEFINITELY the most handsome man I had ever set eyes on.
I remember that first night we stayed up talking. We talked from dusk until dawn. I went through your things and you didn't mind. We talked about ourselves, our likes, dislikes, books we liked to read, songs we loved and movies we adored. You lied to me about loving to camp, hike and rollerblade. I knew you were lying and I didn't care. I decided right then that I wanted to be yours all yours.
I remember I borrowed three books from you, went home and read them all in two days, just so I could return them and see you again. When you saw me back at your door you welcomed me with a smile and I decided right then that you would always be my friend.
Thank you for my beloved memories that span over more than 15 years. You gave me more than 15 years of your life, your love, your smile, your humor and your soul.
Thank you for going to every appointment with me to the OB/GYN. No one ever really wants to go there to begin with.
Thank you for our amazing daughter. We had enough love between us that we created, with God's help, the most exquisitely beautiful, loving, intelligent, compassionate person anyone could ever have. The look on your face when you held her for the first time will remain with me until I die. The expression on your face when you look at her today will remain also since it is still full of the wonder I saw with your first glance. I look at her and see magic. We did that together.
Thank you for all of your support and love throughout my illnesses and life's challenges. I know it wasn't always easy, but I do know you always tried.
Thank you for our ups and our downs, our moving forward and sliding backward.
Thank you for making me laugh when I needed it and letting me make you laugh when you needed it.
Thank you for holding my hand while you held my heart.
I promise to love you, but not in a weird way that scares away any woman you might be interested in pursuing.
I promise to honor our memories and the times we had.
I promise to always remember how much you mean to me.
I promise to always respect you.
I promise to be there for you when you need me and giving you space when you don't.
I promise to always and forever be your friend.
