Seuss Classic for Vocabulary Development in Young Children

The Seuss classic Dr. Seuss's People, Places, and Things is back in reprint for parents of young children to add to their child's home library. Some parents may remember this one from having it available for one or more of their now older children. This classic is a favorite for teaching vocabulary to babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Large print and colorful illustrations are engaging for young children. Each page has a central theme with the vocabulary word in the center of the page. Illustrations and vocabulary words that name the illustrations are featured around the central theme. Seuss characters are also featured in the book. The Cat in the Hat is a prominent character that engages children in learning the vocabulary words on each page. There are are over 100 words to learn. Real-life people , places, and things are featured with vocabulary words. It is a good idea as you read with your young child to point to each word that names an illustration. A reading game can be played when you read the word and have the child point to the illustration. Reverse the game by pointing to the illustration and allow the child to find the matching vocabulary word.

Rhymes in the Style of Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss began the series of beginner books back in 1957. Beginner books are books that children who are learning to read can pick up and read by themselves. Christopher Cerf's A Skunk in My Bunk is written in the style of Seuss rhymes to continue the love of beginner books. He includes a variety of humorous scenes and rhyming words throughout the story that will engage young children in reading to the end. Nicola Slater contributes her talent as an illustrator with hilarious illustrations that accompany the rhyming text.

Rhyming words contribute fun and learning to a child's language skills. Rhyming words also contribute to development of reading skills by the use of phonics and pattern recognition in words. Parents will want to add Cerf's A Skunk in My Bunk to their child's reading collection.

Seuss Classic for Teaching Self-Esteem and Writing Skills to Young Children

The classic Seuss book MY BOOK ABOUT ME is back in reprint for young children to write about themselves. Young children like to talk about themselves and their world. This classic presents the opportunity for young children who are learning to write to write a story about themselves in their very own book. They can write the story of their life and their world with confidence by following the suggestions given on each page. Each page presents an idea for writing and lines on the page for children to write on. Children are presented with ideas to write about how they look, their favorite foods, favorite activities. and favorite pets. Each colorful page has an engaging suggestion for writing children's ideas about the subject. One especially engaging page contains a globe and a complete list of countries for children to choose from to write about where they live. Your child will have a keepsake of their very own life after completing all of the writing activities as they read along.
