Infant Furniture | Needed Essentials for Twins and Other Multiple Birth

Updated on February 14, 2015

Having Twins?

Are you having twins, quadruplets, or more? Do you know someone who is? Shopping for twin babies sometimes means you usually have to get two or more of your baby essentials. When you have multiple babies, this can be a little overwhelming.

Here are a few essentials for multiple birth that's been put together to make getting what you need a little easier to find. Most everything you need or want, all at your reach.

Twins Car Seats

After delivery, you'll need to have a car seat before you'll be allowed to venture out of the hospital with your little bundle. So for twins or other multiple birth, you'll need to get one for each precious cargo.

There are a few out there that you can choose from. Some even come as a combo pack to include a stroller and other baby essentials like, diaper bags or umbrella/canopy.

Time after time car seats are often being recalled by their manufacturers due to some defects. My advice is that you only buy your car seats from established, well-known department stores. Buying car seat from a friend, family, or neighbor may prove to be a deadly mistake as you cannot be sure of any defect that can put your child in harms way.

Twins Bassinet

A needed essential as you juggle the task of changing diapers, breast-feeding and more. This makes it easier to have your babies close. Whether you're in the kitchen or in your living-room, you can keep an eye on your babies while taking care of other household chores.

Most Twin Bassinets do come attached to Pack 'n' Plays with the Bassinets fitted on top. These type/size bassinets are usually sized for newborn/infants to toddler babies. As your babies grow in height and weight, they may need to graduate to a sturdier, more appropriate bassinet or pack 'n' play.

Which of these twin-essentials would you 'definitely' be buying?

Twins Stroller Buying Guide

Strollers are a very needed essential for any parent of twins and other multiples. Taking care of multiple kids can be very stressful. Parents often need to take a walk around the neighborhood, take a stroll down to the park or down the street after a hard days work. Imagine having to carry your twins on a sling for when you go for a stroll. This task is meant for the stroller, thus the name.

Having the right kind of stroller makes the job of hauling your precious cargoes a lot less easier. The Cosatto You2 Twin Stroller is one good option. Not only does it come in a beautiful blue and pink combo, it is so compact, it look the size of most over-sized single stroller.

Other options include the Joovy Scooter X2 Double Stroller, Dream On Me Side by Side Double Stroller, and many others. Whichever ones you choose, be sure to pick the ones that offer all the comfort your babies need, plus lots of room for diaper bags and other essentials.

When buying your babies stroller, there are a couple of things to bear in mind. Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Does it have a big enough storage space (at the base) for diaper bags etc?
  • How big or wide is this stroller? Is it too wide to fit comfortably through most entrance doors?
  • How easy is it to open-up, or fold when not in use?
  • Is it easy to clean?

Also, think of the maneuverability of the stroller. How easy is it to maneuver in tight spaces? This is especially helpful if you plan to take stroller on public transportation, such as, airplane, bus or train.

It always help to read up on the reviews of other customers for whichever brand catches your eyes, as these are usually either satisfied or disgruntled customers giving their honest opinions.

Twins Breastfeeding Pillow

Breastfeeding Pillows is another one on my list of Twins Essentials. If you're are planning to breastfeed your babies after delivery, then having a breastfeeding pillow that's meant to carry the weight of one or more babies is a necessity.

Breastfeeding pillows helps the nursing mother feel a lot more relax since the babies' weight is on the pillow and off the mother. This makes the breastfeeding experience a little less stressful for both mother and child.

Breastfeeding pillows are especially needed for mothers who have just undergone a Cesarean Section as it helps the mother to breastfeed her babies and bond easily with them without the unnecessary pain of resting the babies on her abdomen area.
