How to Let Your Inner Beauty Shine as a Teen Girl

Updated on December 5, 2012

How many times a day do you look in the mirror?

· to check your outfit?

· to check your hair?

· to check your makeup?

The mirror only reflects what is on the outside. It’s okay to want to look nice, but what's most important is letting your inner beauty shine.

Sometimes the mirror can be a girl’s best friend or worst enemy: If the mirror tells you one thing, you’re in a good mood. But, if it’s telling you something negative, it can put you in a bad mood. The truth is…

The mirror should never have such control over one’s confidence level. Eveybody has imperfections, and everyone is beautiful. You don’t need a reflection to know that you are beautiful. Even if you go the whole day without checking your appearance, you should feel your beauty.

No matter what your height is, weight, style of dress or how you wear your hair, present yourself in a way that screams, “I love myself,” and “I am beautiful.” This is what others notice about you most of all. The more confidence others see in you, the more confidence they will have in you as well.

The Inner You

  • Beneath the skin
  • Can’t be detected by a mirror
  • Is not defined by how much stuff you have, social status, or physical appearance

What’s on the Inside?

  • Attitude
  • What you're passionate about
  • Intellect
  • Heart
  • Soul
  • Spirit

Break Free From the Shallow & Look a Little Deeper (Beyond the Exterior)

Some girls spend a lot of time and effort trying to measure up to, so called, standards set by culture...like the media or peers.

The best thing to do is to be yourself. Purse your own passions and your own style. Don't try to be like everybody else just to fit in. People weren't meant to be all the same. Comparing yourself to others contributes to insecurity, low self-esteem, or dysfunctional view of body image.

Spend more time measuring yourself up to…

  • Love ( I Corinthians 13)
  • The Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22)

You should always walk in confidence because of who you are and whose you are. There is something on the inside of you; something below the surface.

Each one of us were “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14)…your inner and your outer self. Nurturing your inner self should be most important.

When you interact with others, you should want people to see kind heart and a godly spirit…for this is true beauty.
