Indigo Children's Message to Humanity

Updated on February 11, 2018

New Kids on the Block

Children are our future.

This tired old cliché usually makes my eyes roll way up into my head, straight to my annoyance center. But you can't deny that there's something different, something remarkable about the kids being born today.

They have many names - Indigo, Star, Crystal, Rainbow - but they all have one thing in common: a deep inner need to express themselves as divine beings.

This article focuses on Indigo children.

Who Are Indigo Children?

"Indigo children" is a term used to describe spiritually gifted children, the way-showers that have come to assist humanity with spiritual awakening. In the 1970s, when the term emerged, it was said that these special kids are born with indigo auras, signifying their lives' mission.

Another way to identify Indigo children is by their psychological and mental characteristics.

"Indigo" is not just another label to pigeonhole these children. It's a descriptive term that highlights their attributes, but everyone is still different.

Indigo Children's Traits

How do you know if you've been blessed with an Indigo child? Or perhaps you're wondering if you're an Indigo yourself?

Indigos are pretty distinctive and as such, they are often misunderstood and sadly, medicated. Some of their most pronounced traits are:

  • born in the last 30-35 years (after 1978)
  • remarkably intelligent since an early age
  • possess intense curiosity and seemingly unbound energy
  • love problem-solving and creative pursuits
  • highly sensitive and intuitive
  • empathetic and perceptive (can read you like a book)
  • willful and independent
  • incompatible with rigid order, conformity and blind obedience
  • love for animals, plants and the environment in general
  • can be introverted and even anti-social
  • prone to insomnia, depression, anxiety, addictions and ADD/ADHD
  • inherent understanding of complex spiritual concepts
  • deep desire to help people/change the world.

If you've checked 10 or more items off this list, congratulations! You have an Indigo on your hands, or you are an Indigo. (Based on Lee Carroll and Jan Tober's book The Indigo Children: The New Kids Have Arrived.)

Indigo Children's Mission

All Indigos are born with a sense of mission, the knowing that they are meant for something great. They are here to be the agents of Great Change on our planet and as such, they resent authority, orthodoxy, blind following and parental style a-la "because I said so". Another extreme is medicating these kids into obedience - a practice as useless as it is destructive.

More specifically, Indigos are here to bring balance back to our world. Heal the planet. Harmonize relationships. Correct injustices. And they are frustrated when they're denied the opportunity to do so, or the respect they deserve.

But why don't I let Indigo children speak for themselves?

Russian Indigo Children

My interest in Indigo children was sparked when I watched a YouTube video of Russian Indigo children. I was completely blown away by these kids, most of whom were no older than 9 years old.The things they said are far beyond what a child of that age would typically understand or even think about.

At the same time, the more I learned about them, the more I identified with them. They reminded me of my own childhood - what a lonely, isolated, scary time it was. Being a sensitive imaginative kid who shuns crowds and loves animals with an almost feverish passion, who hates school but loves reading, and who can easily see people for what they are. Growing up in a rigid, oppressive environment was no walk in the park.

Most of the video is in Russian, but I'd like to share with you the key points that these kids have made:

  1. "There will be a different Earth, with a different generation that is spiritual, kind, and connected to Earth." (Vanya, Liubertsy)

  2. "Parents teach children to be - not malicious, no - but frightened. Without realizing it, they teach their child that that is the way to bring up children, so they actually project their inner aggression on their own children. I understand that to many people this will sound silly, nonetheless, it's true." (Mitya, Moscow)

  3. "The world within me is limitless. In my dreams, I fly wherever I like. One minute I'm here, the next minute I could be at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean in California." (Maksim, Moscow)

  4. "If someone hurts my feelings, I just try to imagine that I didn't hear what they said. And the anger goes away." (Sasha, Moscow)

  5. "Any evil-doing comes back to you 100-fold. And if evil is answered with evil, and that evil with an even greater evil, the chain reaction just keeps going until someone stops." (Masha, Moscow)

  6. "If I'm not successful in preparing the people [for change], then it's on us, the Indigo children, to change the world." (Vanya, Liubertsy)

  7. "I wouldn't want people calling Indigo children special, because everyone is. Indigo children are just the ones who've realized it. They can do things that others consider incredible, but it's only because they are aware of their capabilities. Everyone can do the same if only they believed they can." (Angelina)

Apart from the Indigo children phenomenon, children in general are more in touch with their higher selves, but with age that spiritual awareness diminishes or disappears entirely. Some link it to the gradual calcification of the pineal gland, but that's a topic for another discussion.

MizBejabbers, I really hope you're right about Trump. At the rate he's gaining popularity, he might be our next President!

Svetlana, or Trump hasn't awakened. Jesus was a crystal child, but he had to awaken. Don't get me wrong, I'm not comparing Trump to Jesus. No way!

Well, MizBejabbers, you've intrigued me with your Donald Trump comment. He's probably the last person I would ever consider "Indigo" or any other kind of spiritual warrior, but...who knows? Maybe he's working deep-deep undercover :-)

Mel, I totally share your feeling about the Big Pharma. I hate the entire pharmaceutical industry and what it represents. Indigo or not, labeling a kid "special needs" and pumping him/her full of psychiatric drugs just doesn't seem like a humane idea. Thank you for reading!

The Indigos and the Crystals have intrigued me for years. Not all Indigos have psychic ability and know who they really are. One trait I've read about Indigos is that they do not shrink from conflict. Sometimes some come ahead of the group that follows, and it makes me wonder if Donald Trump may be an early Indigo. The reason I would even think such a thing is that sometimes a soul veers a little off the path (Abraham Lincoln, for instance) and it takes awhile for the soul to get back to fulfilling the soul contract.

We know that children in general in most Western societies are discouraged and even forbidden from exercising their natural soul abilities. I know I was, and I was in my 30s before I began to reawaken. Good hub, great subject.

It is true we are drugging our children into submission, and not just the Indigo ones. Big Pharma has created a dysfunctional society and they are responsible for a lot of these shooting rampages. I hope these Indigo kids can lead us back to a place of peace. Lovely hub.
