I personally love the Summer Infant 3-Stage Superseat Highchair because you can use it with so many different things. It's very versatile and sturdy.

I enjoy floor seats because they are easy to use and very convenient.

I have never had any problems with my kids in their floor seats.

I like look for ones that have a tray you can attach because you can use it to feed them or they can play with toys on it.

They are also very easy to clean and store.

Popular baby accessories in recent years are floor seats.

These give your child a different place to sit and more versatility in their day.

Babies are often very excited to sit upright because they see the world from such a different point of view than they do lying down or in your arms.

They feel much more grown up as well.

What is a Baby Floor Seat?

The seats are often made of hard plastic or rubberized material that sits flat on a surface.

Some come with just the seat alone, while others come with an optional tray so your baby is enclosed, and yet others come with toys.

Biggest Advantages and Disadvantages in Baby Floor Seats

These kinds of seats give your baby support while they learn to sit. It can help strengthen their back muscles.

However, if you have a baby that cannot sit up on her own at all, make sure whatever floor seat you buy gives adequate support.

Also, if your baby is not sitting on her own yet do not leave her for more than about 15 minutes at a time in the chair. Too long of sitting up in a chair like this can put a strain on her currently developing back muscles and spine.

They allow you to have your baby entertained while you are free to do other things. With toys and a tray for snacks your baby can entertain themselves for a small amount of time. They are lightweight, and durable, and usually very easy to wipe clean.

Your baby may quickly grow out of it once they are sitting up on their own and become mobile, as well as weight limit for these usually around 22 pounds.

Risk of tipping over is quite high. It is recommended that you never put a seat like this on any elevated surface like a countertop or table. Also, make sure tempting items that they may want to reach for are well away from your baby in his chair.

Your baby can also arch her back far enough to tip out of the chair backwards.

Cost is also a factor since your baby will only use this for probably a few short months. You can find some in the $30 range, though most are upwards of $45+.

What Every Infant Floor Seat Needs

Find a seat that is made with material that can be easily wiped down and washed.

Look for one that has a very wide base or even a tray that completely surrounds your child to help keep them inside of the chair.

Also as safety is concerned, find a floor seat that has a safety harness.

Removable trays are also very convenient since you may not always want to use it.

I also prefer using baby floor seats that come with toys attached so I don't have to worry about them falling out and my baby reaching for them.

Ensuring Safety on Infant Seats

As mentioned earlier, these seats should never be placed anywhere other than the floor.

It only takes a moment with your back turned for your child to topple out. Babies’ skulls are also very soft for the first year of their life so falling 3 to 4 feet could be fatal.

Make sure to use all safety harnesses appropriately and check for any wear in the belt or buckle.

As with any baby equipment, never leave your child unattended while sitting in this seat.

Make sure your child is the appropriate age, around as six months or so, before using a floor seat like this.

Buying a Safe Baby Floor Seat

I love this Summer Infant 3 Stage Superseat Highchair since it is so versatile. Stage one gives you a soft foam seat for support, and stage two is an activity center with a round trade that has multiple toys and 2 cup holders, and stage three turns into a booster seat that you can use at your table.

There are straps included for this. For even added support, there are foam insert additions so your baby is more comfortable. A three point safety harness is also included.

5 stars for Summer Infant 3-Stage Superseat Highchair

This Prince Lionheart bebePOD Flex Baby Seat is also a cheap option and comes in a few different colors to choose from. It includes a safety harness as well as buckles to slide under a chair to be used as a booster.

For safety, it has a pommel between the legs to keep your baby from tipping too far forward, but it can be removed for easier use under a table. It is the most lightweight at 4.2 pounds.

The Bumbo Floor Seat has been a popular choice for parents for a few years now. It also has a choice in colors, is very easy to clean and has a good non slip surface. It also includes a restraint belt to keep your baby safer.

You should be advised that in 2012 there were recalls made for this floor seat. New models come with a safety harness and the company states that this is still a safe seat if used properly.

If you like the Bumbo, you will love this Bumbo Floor Seat and Play Tray Set for ten dollars more. It has all the features of the basic Bumbo Seat but the removable tray gives you a bit more flexibility.

My favorite is this Prince Lionheart bebePOD Flex Plus Baby Seat that comes in very bright colors. It includes safety straps not only for your child, but also those for a chair if you wanted to use it at a table.

It also has a removable pommel so you can attach the included tray. This tray will attach to the seat in three different positions for added comfort. I love the removable place mat so cleaning up after meals is a piece of cake.

The tray also comes with slots to place the included tray in so it is more secure. This seat seems to have wider leg openings than some of the others we've discussed.
