Most studies done in case of working women after childbirth shows that majority of women do quit their office jobs to focus on children and family life. Since old age, women have been the nurturers and caregivers. Even though a woman might be earning more than her husband, she might still quit her job as her nurturing hormones start making a big beep sound and make her feel guilty. Should women listen to her mother nature call and leave her job to become a full time mother and housewife?

Leaving a full time job for women who have been working for years before the birth of children, can be a very drastic change and it can lead to depression and loss of identity. It is important to maintain your passion and creativity avenues even after marriage and childbirth. So, leaving a job might not be the answer to all the tight schedules that can make life look like a machine life. It is important to remember that children will grow up and have their own independent lives. So, it is essential to maintain your skills, interests and jobs that you are truly passionate about.

Full time working mothers, on the other extreme tend to suffer too. Those hard core workaholics women who continue to work long hours even after children, have a high tendency to have stress problems, guilt feeling and even family issues. However, men tend to have no such problems whether they are father of one or more kids. Cultural upbringing makes men guiltless in area of children upbringing. Women tend to really take the responsibility of children and it can lead to burn out if there are too many things she is trying to do. Being a superwomen is not an easy job! Over-responsibility can further lead to marital disharmony and loss of simple pleasures in life.

Then, what is the solution? The answer is being creative and thinking of win-win situation. Child birth need not be an obstacle to your career path. Good support of grandparents, childcare facilities in neighborhood and friends can make a big difference. A little bit planning before childbirth can help to make a good transition to parenting life. Creating home office or doing online business, can be other avenues to reach your goal to happy career and happy family life.

Hi Rajan Jolly, thank you for your feedback. Yes, when we are flexible and adaptable, we have more choices. Even after childbirth, women can continue to work using their creativity and help from others.

Very interesting observations Ruchi. It is necessary to do what is best in the situation and to mould oneself to the changing situations. For this some thinking and working is essential.

      Voted up, useful.
