Le Picnic la Grande
Le Picnic La Grande.
One good thing about being a grandparent is that you get to spend more time with your grandchildren than you did with your own children; that is if you are lucky. Audrey and I are lucky.
At the same time it can be challenging because they are so full of energy and life. So the next time you are blessed/challenged with looking after a couple of those 2-6 year olds, take them on a picnic la grande.
Most of a La Grande Picnic happens in the imagination, but fortunately with the kids there is an abundance of that available, all you have to is tap into yours. The plan is simple, for a picnic le grande you need some le grande things; people, plates, food, place and behavior, but you actually don’t need any of those except what you can find in your kitchen cupboard and in the house.
Our picnic le grande took place in Egypt with the Pyramids in the background thanks to the imagination of Leah. The sitting room floor provided the desert sand and an old blanket the la grande table cloth/picnic blanket. The la grande cook did the potato chips, the la grande hosts were Audrey and Zak and they also doubled as la grande waiters, and la grande guests. The tomato sauce and vinegar were the la grande condiments, and if our C.D. player had been working we could have had some la grande music.
What about young Luc, the youngest la grande guest(about one year old)? Well he stuffed the chips down with la grande enthusiasm and an occasional dip in the tomato sauce.
One of these days we will do another la grande picnic. Who knows where we will go and what we will do, but be assured it will be a grand affair. By the way, I think la grande means big, important, grand, but it does not really matter because we all had a la grande time!
