Love As Defined By a Nine Year Old

Updated on May 4, 2010

I surveyed a handful of nine year old kids on the subject of love. I simply asked the question, "What does 'love' mean to you?" The results are as follows:

Q. What does "love" mean to you?

A. It is nice and eww at the same time. And feels weird and tingly.

A. I think it means things like friendship and happiness and peace. Also when you create a bond with someone.

A. It means to me that someone is sweet to you, respectful and just loves you.

A. You die of heart break or spend the rest of your [life] doing love stuff and spending money for flowers for your wife.

A. It's nice and it is who you are most comfortable with.

A. ?

A. When you feel happy all the time when you're with them.

A. I think that love means 3 things that are

1. That you think that person is great.

2. That you want to be with them because they are kind to you.

3. That you want to be with them and want to protect them and care about them.

I must admit that though these are comical, it's nonetheless amusing how mature some of the responses are. Regardless, hope you were entertained!

(Side note: the two kids in the photograph above are not nine and did not participate in the survey. They are, however, my little brother and sister and I couldn't help it but to inculde them in this hub.)

Tyler, this post is lovely and your brother and sister are adorable. Their prince and princess styles are exactly how I remember feeling about love when I was 9. But now that you are older and wiser...what are your thoughts?

@ Marcel285 Thanks for your comment. @ Lady_E You can't help but to smile at their answers. Glad you liked it. :) @ bianca* I didn't have the prince and princess idea about love when I was little though I had that feeling that there was somebody out there I was sort of looking for. You know? And that's still my feeling. :)

@ Ashley2013 Did you ask your siblings the same question? I think my favorite was the first response, especially because she explained later that she knew this because of past experience.

This is absolutely adorable! I think answer #2 is closest to what I feel about love kind of ) It's interesting though, I think I'm gonna ask Russian children the same and see what they say )

These little royal children are wonderful and they looked loved and well cared for. Funny how it shows. They didn't need to say a word about love. They are the picture of love.
