The Happy Mom Daily Checklist

Updated on February 17, 2017

The most important thing you should remember when it comes to being a mom is not to be too hard on yourself! It's easy to get overwhelmed since you're trying to make it all happen, trying to please everyone and trying to get it all right. Most likely there isn't one person that knows all the things you are doing, and there are hundreds of different things you are doing as we moms all know! Most days you make it all work, but there are days when it can be overwhelming, so it's important that you reach out for help, advice, or tools to assist you.

This mom's checklist is a tool, it is meant to help add structure to the day and is especially helpful for generally unstructured people. Print this moms daily checklist and keep a stack to have on hand, you’ll need a new one each day.

Most Important Point of this Article: Refer back to the Happy Mom Daily Check list and do something on it when you feel like the day is getting away from you!

REMEMBER...FAILURE IS AN EVENT, NOT A PERSON...

Get Started

Begin using your checklist today. Add the day/date to the top of the sheet and just begin. As they say, Every journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step...so take the first step today, begin your moms daily checklist.

Follow the checklist as best you can each day and you will feel like a Happy Mom! Check off the items you complete throughout your day. You don’t have to do them in any special order, and you may not get them all checked off every day – but don't worry if you don’t get them all done today, tomorrow’s another day and each day you’ll accomplish more! Some days you may only have a few things checked off and completed...that's ok!!...tomorrow's another day!

Repetition Equals Happy Mom

The key and goal is repetition. The more days that you do the same thing every day the more it will become a habit and something you don't have to think about, you just do it. Let's face it, every day there are some things we repeat : we make lunches, we do the dishes, we do laundry, we cook dinner. In life repetition can be boring I'll admit, but let's face it, we need to make some mom things repetitious in order to be a Happy Mom.

For example, water and vitamins are key. You must drink 8 glasses of water a day. Fill a nice big bottle, if you have to keep one next to the kitchen sink, next to the laundry area, keep one next to your bed, keep one next to your favorite place to sit, one where you work... drink throughout the day - do this every day. Keep a bottle of multi-vitamins next to your bed, every night when you get into bed take the multi-vitamin. Do it night after night. It will become routine and you won't have to think about it, you'll just do it. Even if you are eating well, a multi-vitamin is a good thing! Repetition is a good thing when trying to take care of yourself and be a Happy Mom.

As a person that hates routine, I must admit, I have learned that sometimes routine does make life easier.

The goal really is to help you focus and be aware, to help you stop feeling overwhelmed, and help you get into the habit of doing some “me” things routinely every day and then they will become habits. You will gain a sense of accomplishment too when you see all that you have done on your Happy Mom Checklist each day!

The key to success: Referring back to the Happy Mom checklist! This is especially important when you get sidetracked or start spending too much time on one thing – be it kids, cleaning, work, watching tv, computer, phone, whatever, you must pull out the checklist and make something else on it happen. Again, the key to success: Go back to the checklist!

At the end of the day, put that day’s checklist in a folder, under your mattress, and let it all go out of your head as you drift off to sleep. Start a new Happy Mom checklist tomorrow. Sweet Dreams!

Thanks Kathleen, I really like the idea to do one thing every day that doesn't have to be done again the next day!

Welcome to HubPages. You are off to a great start. This is a very good list for the work at home Mom. I did this for the best 13 years of my life. Today those children I devoted my life's work to have homes and children of their own. That's the reward.

One tip I'd add: do one thing every day that doesn't have to be done again the next day. Repot a plant. Buy a new nail polish color. Something, anything, to keep the day unique from the daily grind.

      Good work!

This is an awesome list. I am always venturing off on to other things instead of what needs to be done. I have so much house stuff, I also hate cleaning house. I love being outdoors. I am going to try this list. I have recently started working out, having a list may help me stay with the work out. I am not a routine person, so getting things done is not easy for me. Voted up. Great job on this.

Hang in there H.C...it does get better - not really easier though, every age brings new challenges. Your children are at an age now where it really is the most overwhelming as far as their needs, the house, chores, shopping, laundry, work, family, etc. I once read a quote that said it so perfectly and made me smile...Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing! So true!

So, my best advice for going the distance: protein for breakfast and eat something every couple hours, multi-vitamin & at least 4 water bottles a day, spend the car drive deep breathing, squeezing & releasing arms/legs/butt/hands & shoulder & face exercises & head side to side/rolls & listening to upbeat music. Also, pick 3 nights where every week dinner is the same (for us it is Sunday Pasta, Wednesday Chicken, Friday Pizza)it's amazing how much that helps, you don't have to think about it and it just becomes routine. And they are things you can make fancier when time or inclination allows, but those 3 dinner/days stay the same, forever! Leave the laundry and cleaning for the weekends, pack lunches at dinner, and remember, the housework is never done...there will always be some to do, so whenever possible, choose being with the kids over cleaning - without thinking "I should be cleaning" lol! again, hang in there!

I like the hub, i think the idea behind it is great- we all need to avoid becoming the monster mom that we sometimes are when we are tired and have been neglecting ourselves for years... now is i could figure out how to do all this- that would be a good thing :)

I have two little ones, a three and a four year old... my days allow for- waking up...rushing to get dressed- get them dressed and out the door, before i go to work for at least 8 hours- drive the hour home, get home where it is chaos... house is a mess, everyone is mad-hungry-tired and needs a bath. still need to do laundry- thank goodness my husband has taken on the responsibility of dishes or i would never sleep, lol...

I used to do this when my kids were little. Good ideas and a great hub.
