A familiar incident:

The CBSE 10th Board examination results were declared and Priya did not achieve high percentage of marks, as expected.

The poor girl was completely heart broken. The problem was that she had to prepare herself for the forthcoming competitive entrance examinations for medical/ engineering and other qualifying examinations.

How she will perform in those was her greatest worry, as her whole future career depended on that!!

Where to get that 'Motivation' to start the studies again!!

Who Can Hep?

Children are tender in age and as such need some kind of emotional support from their parents and teachers in such situations.

Even we elders want someone to hold our hand, pat our shoulders in times of stress or difficult situations.

Don't we!

Then isn't it quite obvious that we as parents and teachers must provide that much needed 'Motivation' to our children in their distressful times!

Motivation Should Begin Right From The Beginning!

  • Motivating the child right from the beginning, from the very tender age, can play an important part in boosting his or her morale and consequently bring out the best from them.
  • Both parents and teachers have to lay a strong foundation for the child in this regard.
  • Their guidance from the very early years would bring out the best and raise the bar of the children's academic or other performances.
  • Here it is important to mention that identifying the potential of the child and polish them accordingly should be the focus of the parents and teachers.
  • Each child is gifted, if not in one field, may be in another.
  • Motivational guidance and supportive atmosphere and environment can help them to extend their talent towards the World of opportunities.
  • This later on grows to become a passion among some of the children.

Never give up on what you really want to do. The person with big dreams is more powerful than one with all the facts."

Schools Can Help!

Many schools organize various activities which provide a platform to the students with different opportunities that attract their attention.

This also encourages them to be adventurous, imaginative and creative.

These may include group activities and mass participation.

Besides an expert, other tools and resources are also made available.

This helps the observant teachers and school to identify, mold, nurture and encourage the child in a particular subject or field of his/ her interest.

Interactive sessions can further help in this regard.

To Conclude:

Participation and motivational words help in success of the child.

By providing exposure to situations where the child is required to prove his/ her potential and complete the challenging tasks, the choices of the child can be determined.

This helps the child to take the right decision with the motivation and support of parents and teachers.

Both parents and teachers are thus equally responsible in paving the way for a child's success in the career and in life.

My wife has been and continues to be a teacher for 40+ years now. She is committed to her trade and looks forward to her "Little Darlings" every day. Although teachers look forward to their summer vacations, many, like my wife, start preparing for the new school year weeks in advance. Halfway through the summer my wife often starts commenting about how much she misses her kids. She is a true professional, through and through.

Yes, motivation is really needed. I feel the parents should come first, but admit that some teachers do a better job. It is all to do with where we are in our development as human beings, our character and consciousness. Great Hub.

Very great and useful article. Motivation is the base for any achievement. You have mentioned many interesting and useful tips to accomplish this. It is true that teachers and parents should encourage children by observing and guiding them at right time so that they do not feel insecure and under-estimate themselves losing self-confidence.

Excellent tips on helping children to become successful in school! When I was working in the public school system, it became readily evident when students did not have adequate support from their parents at home. Teachers had to work twice as hard with those students to help them have a desire to learn!

This is so important for children in general. Our society is not really good at encouraging confidence and allowing people to develop at a natural pace, so the more motivation you can give to children, the better off they're going to feel about being rushed and pushed. Voted useful and up!

Nice article M'am. :) Love reading it. As a student and being at the same stage of doing board exams and then preparing for entrance for MBBS these days, I also might feel a bit gloomy sometimes but I always speak my heart out to my parents and one of my teacher, who always make a way for me. And then again I'm able to face it! :) Voted for the article.

This is such an important issue, and you have brilliantly elaborated on all aspects of it. This is very useful not only to be read by students but teachers and parents as well. Parents' role is crucial , but teachers can really mould the personalities of students to a great extent. Voted up and shared.

This is very good CS, motivation starts from home, the parents. Children trust in the parents first. They start out depending on the parents for everything. They must be encouraged the most by the parents. You are on the money.

While reading your comments, I was reminded of the days when my children were the same age as yours. Appearing in competitive entrance examinations, especially in the Indian context, where there is so much cut throat competition , requires lot of hard work, perseverance, time management and of course the motivation and encouragement of parents and teachers.

I am glad your parents and teachers are supportive. Wish you all the best for your forthcoming examinations. Be confident and keep your calm.

I believe that children need guidance and emotional support at this young age of their life. They are not sure, confident and they may be apprehensive. Parents and teachers need to encourage them, motivate them and prepare them for the various challenges of life.

I can't agree with you more about motivation. Both parents and teachers are essential to motivating children to believe that yes, they can learn and can achieve their dreams. It has to start at a young age and continue until adulthood. Self-motivation is also something children and students can exhibit also. Excellent article and I enjoyed reading this. Well written article. I think time is an important factor. With lots of students in class teachers have little time to identify the interests and motivate each kid satisfactorily. Also parents work more with less time to spend with kids. I work form home to be able to spend time with the kids but it's harder to find the time to work when I do it from home and I still don't feel like I give them the time they need.

I agree with your views that parents or teachers do not have enough time to devote to each and every child. But they can identify those children who are in real need for motivation.

In any case teaching or parenting an intelligent child is much easier compared to teaching or bringing up the average or below average kids. I believe we as parents should focus more on such children.

I remember my days --- Its very difficult for a mother to feel satisfied for what she is doing for her kids. May be you are passing through that phase but believe me your efforts and commitment will give positive results in future and you will be a proud and satisfied mother when you see your kids prosper in their lives.

Wish you all the best and thank you for the follow!
