Night Lights for Kids

Updated on September 20, 2011

Night Lights for Making Kids and Parents Feel More Secure

Night lights for kids are a good idea for several reasons.

- Some young children need a night light to help them fall asleep.
- Parents can use them for illumination to check in on little ones without waking them up.
- As kids get a bit older, having one of these lights to help them move about safely is also a good idea.

Choosing the right one isn't too hard. The perfect night light for kids is one that:

- is UL listed/safety rated
- is constructed without hazardous chemicals
- is free from small parts that could present a choking hazard for the youngest kids
- cool to the touch, won't burn small hands that touch it

Of course the one that suits a child's tastes or calms them and provides just the right amount of illumination is good too.

For very young kids, models that set up on a dresser or chest is often a good choice as they won't tempt a toddler to investigate an outlet or directly touch a bare bulb. Many options are available that operate with a battery so that there is no temptation to pull on a cord.

Of course there are other features to consider. Some of these items have auto timers that will allow them to shut off and save power after a set period of time. Some will offer other design coordinated elements like bedding, light switch plates, and more to give the room a coordinated look.

You'll find a variety of these items on this page for infants, preschoolers, and even school age kids.

Glitter night light is my favorite. Good night light may also deter mosquitoes, so it's important to chose a good one.

Night lights are so cute now days. I think it is a great idea to have a few night lights throughout the house to keep tripping and stumping of toes to a minimum.

I have enough electronics in my home office to act as night lights unless I switch the surge protectors off.
