Best Nuby Sippy Cup Review - Straw Cup vs. Flip-it Cup

A comparison between the Nuby Sippy straw cup and the flip-it cup. Which is the best sippy cup to buy? What are the differences in prices? Which cup is easier to clean? Which cup lasts longer? Why should you buy one over the other?

This review is for the budget conscious mom. There are two main choices to buy for most inexpensive sippy cups at your local Wal-Mart. These are sold individually or in a package of three.

  • Nuby Straw Cup
  • Flip-it Cup

Both cups are for ages 12 months and up. Every baby is different in their developmental stage. Your baby may be ready earlier or later than 12 months. Mine started on straw cups around 11 months.

Nuby 10-oz Flip-It Sippy Cup

Judging by appearance and price, you'd think the Nuby 10-oz flip-it cup were the better product to purchase. The price is a little higher and it looks like the flip-it feature is worth the extra money. It is not. The flip-it feature wears the straw out and starts to tear the plastic. I bought two and with both products, the straw broke off at the point where the flip-it feature bent it in half. This sippy cup advertises that it is leak proof. From both my experience and that of customer reviews on the Walmart site, it is NOT leak proof. One customer rated it a 1 star (out of 5) and stated, "Planning to return it back as it leaks". It is also supposed to be dishwasher safe but after I washed mine, I had to re-clean every nook and cranny inside the flip-it feature by hand in the sink.

This product did not even last a month. It was a daily cleaning frustration, leaking nightmare, and waste of money as the straw broke. This is my honest review!

Nuby 10-oz Flexi-Straw Gripper Sippy Cup Review

Nuby 10-oz Flexi-Straw Gripper Sippy Cup

The Nuby 10-oz Flexi-Straw Gripper Sippy Cup is slightly cheaper than the above mentioned product. Yet, it is the better product to buy. Trust me; you won't even miss that defective flip-it feature. This product has lasted time! Not like the above product, which broke the straw in half. The Nuby 10-oz Flexi-Straw Gripper Sippy Cup is truly leak proof! A five-star customer rating from Walmart stated, "Doesn't leak. I even shook it upside down. :)" Great! A cheap sippy cup that doesn't leak! This cup is truly dishwasher safe! It comes out clean every time that I wash it! We get lots of use out of this product!

This product lasts through many dishwashing cycles and comes out clean! It does NOT leak! The silicone straw hasn't broken! Buy the Nuby Flexi-Straw sippy cup over the above product. You will not be disappointed.

Melinda, is this cup BPA free? Most plastic products that contain BPA are infant and children's pacifiers, bottles and sippy-cups. BPA leads to cancer, reproductive problems, ADHD and so much more. I don't buy any plastic products unless they clearly state they are BPA free. I wrote a hub about BPA a couple of years ago. The stats will scare the pants off you!

Bravewarrier, thank you for your comments. I learned something new today. ;-) To answer your question, yes these sippy cups are bpa free. This is one of the first specs listed above for the Nuby Flexi-Straw Sippy Cup. ;-) I would love to read your hub on this subject. Glad to know this product is BPA free. Sincerely, Mel

When I turn my Nuby No Spill Straw sippy cup upside down it doesn't leak but I've noticed that when it is just sitting there in an upright position liquid comes up out of the straw. How can I prevent this??

Nichole, I am not sure what to do about that. I haven't noticed that myself with the Nuby Flexi-Straw Sippy cup. This does happen with a different type of sippy cup that we have, but it's because I have it too full of liquid.

My baby straw is leaking when upright and turned over. What can I do?

We had the Flip-It cup, and it was not a good experience. We quickly switched to the Flexi-Straw, and that worked really well for us.

Sherrye, the only time that I've had this problem with the flexi-straw is when I've had some sort of carbonated drink (on occasion) in the sippy cup. Also, if you have the cup too full, this will tend to happen. I have my son or daughter take a few sips from the cup and this usually solves the problem.

ThatMommyBlogger, thank you for your feedback. I'm glad the Flixi-Straw worked out for your family too. :-)

      Sincerely, Mel
