Our Newborn Baby's Miracle - Power of Prayer
My daughter Celaina LaShea was two months old when she developed a bad cold. After being born at 4lbs 6oz she was still only around 7 lbs. The mucus would build up and she would cough miserably. We couldn't keep her little nose cleaned out quick enough before it would fill up and block her airway, disturbing her nursing.
I took her to the doctor and they just suggested it was a cold. Since it was our first child I didn't want to look like a paranoid mother so I just accepted the suggested treatments of common over the counter medicines.
She then grew worse so I took her to the emergency room and again they insisted it was just a congestion and told me to use Little Noses. I was by then pretty frustrated.
The next evening her color was not looking good and she no longer could nurse. I could tell she was gasping to breathe.
Hurriedly we rush her back to the hospital where we had to wait, then they listened to her and ordered chest X-rays. To our dismay they said she had double pneumonia. They said, " We need to admit her and put her in an oxygen tent. " The doctor had a very concerned look on her face.
After going to the baby unit, they proceeded with the routine weighing etc. ( Not realizing how severe she was.) When she was in the room a special doctor came in to look at her and immediately said, " We need to call life-flight!" He looked at us with that look you knew didn't mean hopeful.
I then walked over to the tent and looked at my baby girl she was dying fast. Her color was ashen grayish blue and her little chest was sinking to her back bone as she struggled to breathe. I had to walk away my grief was more than I could bear. I asked the nurse if she would live and she looked at me in a gaze and said, " This baby is very sick!" I collapsed into my husbands lap almost passing out. I shook myself and went into the hall to meet the doctor. I pleadingly asked him, " Is there a chance my baby will live?" He looked down at me and said, " I can't even give you a percentage of a chance she will live." Me and my husband looked at each other in fear too intense to describe, but we knew we had the solution. After calling family and friends for prayer we headed straight to the waiting room, got down on our knees and begin pleading to God for a miracle.
My husband had felt before we even arrived that God was going to get glory through this, but I on the other-hand struggled with fears and doubts and thought of all the "what if's."
We cried out loudly and desperately to God, knowing many others were doing the same. It wasn't long I begin to feel a deep peace overshadow me. I begin to feel confident, " Everything is going to be okay!"
We went back to our baby and met the life-flight as they burst through the doors. By then my parents had just arrived.
The doctor stood by the baby with a strange look on his face as he examined her. He looked up at the life-flight team and said, " I'm embarrassed, this is not the same baby I just called you about!" Baby Celaina was now breathing nice and easy and her color was pink. My mother then told the doctor, " Don't you be embarrassed, It was God that healed this baby!" He replied shaking his head with a half smile, " Prayer always helps!"
The doctor looked at the life-flight team and said, " Since your here, go ahead and take her for observation, but she really don't need to go."
We followed behind praying hard all the way, that there wouldn't be a set back. We arrived at the hospital and she continued to improve, she went home just fine the next day.
We know God still answers prayer, nothing is too hard for God!
She is now a beautiful healthy 12 year old.
