Parenting With Anxiety

Anxiety is no joke. One second you are doing great and then the next, your stress starts to rise, your heart starts beating uncontrollably, you are having a hard time breathing and then ten seconds later your child happens to spill a gallon of paint in the garage and you completely lose it. Your self-control goes out the window and you make a giant deal about something that really wasn't that big of a problem to begin with. Everyone looks at you like you are nuts, and now you are the new gossip for the week.

What I have found that works for me is getting just ten minutes of exercise that gets my heart rate up every day. It helps a lot. I can't even begin to tell you! It makes me feel so much better about myself as well. I try to keep a regular routine of my wake and sleep cycles, also making sure that I'm not getting too much or not enough sleep as well. That in itself can cause you to have some minor mood swings. STAY SUPER HYDRATED. Dehydration can cause slight inflammation in your brain and while trying to find and take in what little H20 that is left in your system will in turn will cause some crankiness. There has also been quite a few studies done regarding a variety of mood disorders that are merely caused by something causing the brain to swell. That is why St. John's Wort is such a great, natural way to help with mood swings. What a coincidence that the herb does an awesome job of reducing inflammation as well as promote positive moods.

Take a few extra seconds to stop and take some deep breaths to stop yourself from overreacting or when you feel yourself about to blow. I always remind myself that I am overracting (most likely I am from the anxiety). I personally use prayer right then and there. I ask for the strength to overcome this feeling and to let it pass quickly and that is my answer for my life right there. Some things that people go through aren't always apparent and everyone is always going through something, so try your greatest to be nice, you never know what someone is silently battling.
