30 Positive Quotes About A Mother's Influence

Updated on February 10, 2019

MsDora, seven-year online writer, shares poetry, creative writing, quotes and reflections on how writing and writers influence our lives.

“Consumers are planning to open up their wallets a little bit more to celebrate the women with the most important jobs in the world,” said Pam Goodfellow, Prosper Principal Analyst. She was referring to the stupendous amount of spending for mothers on Mother’s Day (up to an estimated 23.6 billion dollars in 2017 from 14.9 billion in 2007).

Yet, despite the amount of money spent for Mother's Day gifts, the world recognizes that the influence of mothers is beyond price.

Consider their powerful influence in four areas which are basic to motherhood:

  • Their presence (always there when needed and even when not);
  • Their words (affirming and unforgettable);
  • Their love (nurturing for a liftime);
  • Their uniqueness (different than any one else in the family or not duplicated anywhere else).

Reminisce, celebrate and give thanks for mothers as you ponder the following 30 quotes.

Their Presence

      Picking up on Marlenes question ( Would it be a photo you could be proud of ? ) theres things i would never repeat.

      But my own memories as child was mothers illness, while at the same time father running his business and mother would roam the streets by day waiting for him to come home. Out on the street everyone made fun of her, calling her the Crazy woman. But if only they knew her, despite her illness and what she was going through, the insight she had on life, education, faith, teaching "to much to mention" was phenomenal. ( But her real passion was her kids ) despite all the suffering she went through.

      As a young Kid out and about on the streets with friends, you would hear words like, here comes the Crazy woman, and i would cross the street to avoid being seen with her.

      There may exist photos in life we're not to proud of in that moment, but nobody needs to show me a photo of me crossing the street to avoid been seen with my own mother. An interesting question, Would we do the same in that situation as a kid, Or would we go over to her and proudly say ( this is my mother ) ?

      Sometimes even when we think it's not our fault, our conscience can still play on us, and accuse us. But theres absolutely nothing that's out of Gods hands. Only he has the know how, in being able to fix anything through time.

      When i first read this Title i thought to myself ( how is this relevant ) to anything in life ? But reading through them quotes, most of them touched a nerve i never knew existed, at least not consciously.

      Coming from the same backround as loannis, with many aunties, my own Mother for some "unknown reason" developed a kind of Mental Health problem. Without putting a lable on it, at the age of around 4 she started destroying furnitures in the home, and talking to herself, she never really did recover from the illness but medications helped controlled it throughtout her life till she reached her 70s when the condition died down altogether. Before that, she was in and out of hospitals for years.

      You would think having serious Mental Health issues like that would prevent someone from having any faith in God, yet my own mother had the strongest faith in God than anyone i ever knew.

      Amongst her illnesses, she would say ( God will provide ) My dad being an atheist thought that was amusing, but looking back over the years, she was right, God did provide, but he used my father who had is own business to do that, and In all the years of my Mothers illness, he never cheated on her once, and stayed with her throughout her life.

      I think most people would have thought about their own needs at that point and remarry again, "but not my father" he never left her, that thought of remarrying never even existed with my father.

      You know the really odd thing about all this ? Looking back at it all, despite my Mothers ongoing illness & constantly destroying the furnitures, she was actually battling with unseen forces, maybe due to the strong faith she had. I know that now, because i experienced the same things myself.

      Eric & Tim would call it satan, that's probably a general term, but for me, it was real Demons making outright attacks in the early stages, but as i started to trust God more, them attacks stopped altogether. Unlike Tims ( Metaphor for those unaware ) i was to aware of what was going on. And wished i wasn't. Atheist and unbelievers would probably struggle believing things like that actually happen for real, but when you experience it for real, you know its real. Glad the Demons made them attacks, because it Just made me strust in the ( Almighty ) more.

      Even though them Demons don't give me to much physical trouble anymore, they're not to far away either, still causing issues in other ways. ( Eph 6:12 ) But not for long.

      And despite my Mothers own illnesss battling with them unseen forces, never really being there for us in a physical sense, she definitely had a "Poweful Influence" on me and some of my brothers for the good.

      You never know what circumstances in life can make a believer out of you, and also learned one very big lesson as well, the Demons definitely shudder at the name of God. ( James 2:19 ) but without my Mothers own influence, battling them forces, i may be an atheist. Maybe that's why God ( Allows ) some things to happen to begin with.

      Liz, my heart goes out to children young and older who do not (did not) have happy experiences with their moms. I pray that God will put some compassionate woman in the path of each person who needs someone to offer the love that they missed. Every child deserves a mother's love.

      This is the very best thing i miss about being a JW.

      Everybody in the congregation could know the worst things about you, yet give you the best welcoming smile you ever seen when you walk through them doors. They treat you like a real brother or sister, like one of their own.

      When someone is truly sorry for what they did, no matter how many times they fall back to old ways, what can you do other than forgive ? Nobody knows the real deep inward struggles of an individual, but ( God sees it ), and that's all that matters. In a similar way a good mother may choose not to see it, but it will never surpass the Love of God & Christ who sees all men, women, and children as their very own, regardless of faults, ( for now )

      The world is ready to accuse and condemn individuals on the basis of what they did regardless of how sorry they are, some maybe justifiable, but God will have the final say on who lives and who dies, but without that love we will never have the opportunity to live in the first place.

      Loannis is right, Mother is the Human form of Gods Love. I understand that backround.

      Eric echoes my sentiments exactly, Ms. Dora. It takes good women to help raise good men. My wife just kind of grins when I would be up to mischief with the kids when they were young, now she just says: "Oh, Tim! you and those dogs of ours are like children some days." My wife has many of the qualities of my mom, doing a great job with the children, me, and life to help us all turn out o.k.

      Thanks again, Ms. Dora. Great piece of writing.

      Oh my, I read this and thought about it and now I am back. What a wonderful influence in love my mom was. So special to each of us 6 kids and ones she brought in. She is my adoptive mother, so I thank my biological mother also.

      I think of my wife as my mother also.She just gives me and my boy the love we need to prosper. Like my mom she is super judgmental - for about ten minutes a day.

      Looking the other way when we are up to mischief is a special talent.

      To look for perfection in others is not have faith in them, but if we really understand the mind of God, he don't look at others as we do. The more trust we have in God, the more our trust in others develop.

      "My doctor told me i would never walk again, my mother told me i would. I believed my mother"

      Sounds like some of my aunties, but the down side to some of these "Poweful Influences" towards their children, they can hold into things forever and ever with with certain others not of their own blood. If we can apply that kind of love towards all people irrespective, the world would be a different place to live. That's the ideal love God wants, and working towards through the death of Jesus.

      About someone secretly following us around snapping a photoe of us at anytime. ( I really do appreciate ) Marlenes ways and mean that, me personally, i like the idea of being imperfect, knowing that I'v done and said things in the past which i am not proud of. Some places in the world, eveywhere we go your being watched. With the Almighty God himself and Jesus we're even watched in privacy of our own homes as well. No disrespect to anyone, but glad i messed up in the passed. But even for those who haven't, If our own conscience isn't already accusing us on a daily basis then maybe we dont need to show our faces before the Almighy himself who even knows our very thoughts.

      About anything i said or done in the past ? My take on that is just leave it where it is, it's a good reminder of who i was. And believe it or not, it's good for others to, because if we can't, it's just shows up our own imperfect state.

      ( There's a lot of "very good" quotes here )

      Number 30, I think that "Sixth Sence" is the very highest of all Loves in creation. When you can love to them depths, that must be the real sacrificial "Agape" love the bible speaks about, a mother who never did care for pie, who would die for her kids.

      Only that kind of love can know every detail about her kids. That's also the love God & Jesus has for ( ALL ) humanity "Impartially"

      A real challenge for all of us, could we ever accsept other peoples children as our own, and love them in the same way ? If we could, that love would be even more pure than the love of a natural mother. Mitch Albom. ( 19 )

      This is a wonderful tribute to mothers. My mother would often say something similar to #12, only she would say, imagine someone secretly following you around and is able to snap a photo of you at any moment and then show it to the world. Would it be a photo you could be proud of? That thought has been one of many thoughts that has kept me on the straight and narrow for all my years.

      There are so many great quotes here, Dora. My mother is a selfless, confident person who gives much of herself and always makes her children feel loved. When my sister and I were teens we separately nominated her for a local Mother of the Year contest (neither of us knew that the other had nominated her), and she won the title. She still mentions it decades later. Now that I have my own child I especially value her sacrifices in raising three children in sometimes challenging circumstances.

      I love this beautiful collection of thoughts and quotes, Dora. So many memories of the beautiful times we spent together flood my thoughts. I can remember my mother wearing a fitted red dress with little pleats at the knee, how beautiful she appeared to me at 8 years old. I remember when she cut the apron strings off a lace apron and gave it to me as a gift when I married. I remember the first time she asked me how to cook something. I remember counseling her about dating when she suddenly found herself single in her fifties. Until the day she died she called me her baby. What a blessing and a gift mothers are if they choose to be.
