Stories and Adventures in Charming Chapter Book With Lessons Based on Faith
Adventures, Lessons in Faith, and Fun Characters
The Misadventures of Tood and Taboon: The Good, the Bad, & the Mischievous! by Christian authors Natasha Tabon and Angela Wood is a collection of three short stories in a chapter book for young readers. Faith lessons are introduced and their stories offer parents the opportunity to open a conversation with children about the part that faith plays in life. What better time to introduce faith into families in this unprecedented time that we are living in?
Three short stories are contained in this chapter book. "Our Parents are Coming to Visit" is an adventure of a family meal going awry when Tood and Taboon plan to have their parents over for a family meal to share. Taboon prepared a variety of delicious dishes and waited for both sets of parents to arrive for dinner. A sneaky and stinky skunk had other ideas when he sneaked into the kitchen and took all of the food for himself. What a smell he left behind! What were they going to eat? Tood and Taboon learn the lesson that a meal for sharing with family is really about the family time and it doesn't matter about the food. Young readers will enjoy the choice of food that was ordered to share at the end of the story.
"The True Meaning of Christmas" is the second story or chapter. Taboon is a late shopper and goes to find last-minute gifts for her family and friend Tood. She left her wallet at home and had to rush back to get it. She found it in a very surprising place and rushed back to the stores. She was very disappointed to find all of the stores now closed and she had no Christmas gifts to give. She solved her problem with homemade gifts for everyone but was afraid that these gifts would not be good enough. Taboon learned the lesson that gifts from the heart can be better than fancy store-bought gifts.
The third and last chapter teaches that we can have faith that we are protected when we are in danger. "The Scary Blizzard" finds Tood in a situation to save her animal friends from the terrible storm. She could not find Taboon to help and she became worried. She made the decision to pray for safety in the storm and a surprise friend showed up to save everyone from the blizzard.
Tabon and Wood write with simplicity and the presentation of faith runs through all three stories. Each story/chapter concludes with the question of how many times have we been in trouble and God has come through with the answer. They conclude with a short prayer for young readers to use when they have a problem. They also include a Scripture verse.
The Misadventures of Tood and Taboon: The Good, the Bad, & The Mischievous! was published by Xulon Press and is recommended for ages 6-9. It has an ISBN of 978-1-5456-6708-8.
