Summer fun for girls

Updated on March 5, 2012

My daughter likes to make messes year round...!

One of her favorite summer activities is playing with dough. I can't always go to the store and buy the stuff, and although its cheap...she goes thru a vast quantity, especially when she mixes all the balls of dough into several different colors. It makes more sense to make it myself and save money and time. I have included the recipe if you want to follow along!

HOME MADE PLAY DOUGH:

2-3 cups flour (reserve 1 cup to use as needed if dough is too wet)

1/2 c table salt

1 tbsp vegetable oil

1/2 -1 c lukewarm tap water

2-3 drops food coloring (I use NEON colors)

STEPS:

1. Mix flour and salt in plastic mixing bowl.

2. Add water and oil.

3. Stir in food coloring.

4. Mix until all ingredients are combined.

5. Turn out onto newspaper covered table top and knead well.

6. If dough is too wet add flour from the reserved cup.

Store in air tight containers for longer lasting dough. I usually mix all ingredients together and separate into 4 bowls and then add food coloring.

Have fun !
