Terrible Sevens-Temper Tantrums

Updated on February 13, 2012

I was over at my Mom and Dad's on a Sunday to eat dinner along with my niece and nephew, she is twelve and he is a wonderful age of 7. My brother, their dad was not there also their mom,my sis in law was working. Also my 2 sons where there ages 22 and 24.

My nephew says I can do magic, I let him help me do projects with me and I burn him some CD's anyway, we do a lot together, so where the magic came in I still don't know. So there is a bond there, but it's once a month, it's easy to create magic once a month.

My little angle of a nephew-angel came up to me and it ALL started with a question.

"Can I play ANGRY BIRDS on your phone?"

"May I, and yes, you MAY play the The Angry Birds Game"

It was peaceful for awhile, after I turned off the sound of the game then proceded to come up next to me on the couch. He asked me something about my iPhone and I mistakingly made it go black and he thought it was broke or turned off his game.

That's when it happened. No child, mine or no other child has done this around me or because of me. Well, that's how I feel anyway.

The Hissy Fit
It was 3 things in unison, one was the physical; Chase feel onto the couch backwards. ( Linda Blair on the Exorcist would be proud) Two, was the sound. Watch the real crystal!! Live or memorex! He let out a death wail that was unbelievable, so of course their dog Katy started howling.

The 3rd thing was that I was shocked. My son that was on the other side of him, Daniel he is 22 years old, got so aggravated, he took the phone, and above the screaming he said he would fix it. Some how that made it worse, mean while.....

I sat there in magical Aunt stupor,I didn't know what to do. In the corner of my eye my DAD had a little bitty switch in his hand. I glanced at my MOM, she was shaking her head.
And my Dad was going to threaten him,but that's all that happened.

But here we are, what does a person do when a child has a temper tantrum? When a little angel gets tore-up-from-the-floor-up? What does a bewildered favorite Aunt or anyone that loves that child when they are not theirs?

Magic Aunts

I hope this doesnt ever happen again, but If it does, I have to be prepared. I don't have a magic wand, maybe some patience and prayer.

Foods that have artificial coloring, which that's everything these days. Like Capt. Crunch, the red berries in it have dyes that make kids hyper.

Thanks, I have raised a slew of boys, but I hadn't thought of what my mom & dad are feeding him. But again, my sons didn't act like that either. Great idea about the 20 minute rule also, plus, I almost deleted that stupid game. Awful I know. Lol.

How about when he asks you to use your iPhone, make the rule. Example; he can only use 20 minutes, he has to stop anytime when you tell him to stop. If he doesn't say yes, you won't let him use it. And if he was listening you well, he can use the iphone 25 minute next time. Also no sugary foods and colored foods for him while you are watching. Coloring effects children's nerve system I heard.
