The Second Baby - Baby Shower Alternatives
Hoorah! Another Baby!
If you or a friend or family member is pregnant with baby number two (or three, or four) and have had people asking about a baby shower, you may be a little on the fence about it.
Traditionally, most Mom-to-be's had a baby shower for their first child and that was it. But now days, more and more mommies are having a second baby shower. But it might not be what you're expecting.
They've already done the games and baby shower theme decor before, now they have something different in mind. Something modern and hip. Here are some ideas to please the mom in your life.
POLL: How many baby showers should a mom have?
The Baby Brunch
Gone are the days where you have to host a baby shower in someone's home. Now you can pretty much party anywhere! Rent a room at a local restaurant or cafe that will provide food and drinks for your party. Have guests bring just a little something to give to the new mama.
This is especially great for moms who are having another baby of a different gender. They can now stock up on items they might not have gotten the first time around. Note that this is not meant for big baby gifts like strollers, porta-cribs, baby swings, etc. It is more meant for clothes, bibs, diapers, hygiene products, and the like.
Sip on Mama-tinis
Okay, obviously the expecting mother cannot drink regular martinis, but she can have Mama-tinis with her girlfriends. Mama-tinis are virgin martinis that taste just as good, but are healthy for baby.
Host a night of fun gossip and clean drinks for your guest of honor, and have your party goers bring something for Mama. Maybe it's a spa gift basket, or a gift card for a massage. Give something that will treat her after (or even before) the newest baby has come.
Stock up on glasses!
How to Make Non-Alcoholic Cocktails
Odds are, Mama has neglected her feet or hands over the past few months as she's been busy preparing for the new baby. Why not gather a few close friends and treat her to pedicures and manicures? She will love being pampered, and the nice break that it gives her with her friends. This is one gift she will always adore, even if it's a month or two after the baby is born.
You may or may not have heard of a Blessingway by now. It is a ceremony made to create a sacred and safe environment for mommies-to-be to reflect on their journey ahead and anything that is to come with motherhood and giving birth. It also celebrates the joy of the guest of honor becoming a mom!
Any mom can take part in this ceremony regardless of their beliefs or practices. If you want more information on how this works, or how to host a Blessingsway, you can visit the birthbeads.com website for more details.
Alternative Baby Shower
Gather your friends and family, there's a big bash about to be had! No corny games, no clothespins telling you that you can't say "baby" or "pregnant"... nope, this party is a whole new hip event.
This party will be a hit, when you roll out the white cake to reveal a blue or pink inside when you cut it! Or, bring out a big box decorated in baby shower wrapping paper, and when you opening it, pink or blue balloons come floating out! Get creative in sharing your baby's gender with all your friends and family. They will love it, and it will make for some great photos!
