The best diaper for your baby

Updated on March 21, 2012

Numerous jokes are often made about the aisle in the supermarket where diapers for babies can be purchased. There are so many brands and choices, it can be mind boggling. How much time can you spend in that aisle picking out the diaper that is just right. What do you have to go on? Often times, it is just a game of trial and error. You might try one brand and if it doesn't work for you, try another.

By not right for you, I mean that the diaper might not be durable enough, often leaking or it might cause a skin reaction/sensitivity in your baby.

Through trying several different brands of baby diapers, I'd like to share with you my personal #1 choice for my baby. It is Huggies Snug and Dry without a doubt. It is the best! Let me be clear. I am not referencing the entire Huggies brand - not Huggies Little Movers for example but Huggies Snug and Dry very specifically. Huggies makes a lot of diaper versions but Snug and Dry is the best. It is made of good material and offers great leakage protection.

Choosing the diaper is indeed a great dilemma for many new parents but it doesn't have to be. Sometimes the advice of those who have already been through the 'trial and error' really helps. I have certainly already been through it and I am hoping this is helpful to you.

Frequently, when a baby is sent home from the hospital, the hospital endorses the Pampers brand and nurses supply the new mom with Pampers Swaddlers for the time in the hospital when the baby is just born. That often seems to be standard. Moms can of course have their own baby diapers ready for the birth of the baby by having the diapers packed in the hospital overnight bag.

What I have found about Pampers Swaddlers is that they are very soft and should give great comfort to newborn skin but the diaper leakage protection is not the best.

Huggies Snug and Dry can provide even overnight protection without claiming to be an "overnight diaper" which is often labeled on various diapers.

If I had to offer you a second choice in diaper brands, It would be Earth's Best. The Earth's Best brand diapers are also very good - durable, sturdy, excellent leakage protection.

Leakage protection is very important for avoiding the diaper accidents. You might have to change not only the diaper but the baby's entire outfit perhaps several times a day if you don't have adequate leakage protection in the diaper.

A large box of Huggies Snug and Dry diapers typically retails for around $20. Keep an eye out in your Sunday newspaper. You can very frequently find Manufacturer's coupons for at least $2 off a box of Huggies brand diapers.

I understand that many Moms will prefer to use washable and reusable diapers and this article does not cater to that as I do not use those and do not have the experience to offer advice on those. Nevertheless, if you do typically use disposable diapers, please take the advice that Huggies Snug and Dry is a worthy investment.

You will not necessarily save with cheaper brands because of the time it takes to clean up big messes for diaper leaks and the extra cost of doing more laundry.
