How To Implement Time Management Techniques For Hard Working Parents Can Make Your Life Less Crazy

Updated on June 7, 2011

How Do You Start Your Own Time Management System?

When you see some parents with their children you wonder how they do it. Maybe they would implement some time management techniques they can share with the rest of us. Learning to cope with work outside the home or in the home can be absolutely crazy.

Some people take years before adapting to a plan at home that works. Remember when you took that precious baby home for the first time? Well those nurses had your baby on a schedule to ensure your child was not hungry or dirty.

In the workforce there are people that pay good money for Time Management Technique Training to ensure their leaders are more efficient. Why not use time management skills to free up more time at home?

Just imagine no surprises at bath or breakfast time because you all are on the same page. You never want to hear that you have to sign a paper or attend a school function without proper notice. Schedules will save many hours of mismanaged time and tears.

I know in the real world plans don't seem to mean anything but I promise that if you forge ahead and stick to a plan all will be well. My children are all adults now but I have certainly learned that not to have a method is the make a choice to go insane.

Your family will learn to appreciate and respect you for implementing your time management techniques when they have their own special place in it.

How To Impliment Time Management Techniques

You and your family will need to develope time management schedules that come in effect during different times of the year.

  • School time.
  • Summer
  • Week Ends

No offense but children need a break from us just like we need a breather from them. We have to takeĀ  time to appreciate each other and build confidence in younger children that we will come back together and love it. (You'll appreciate this when kindergarten begins.)

  1. Set certain times of the week, month, and year for:
  • Family fun
  • Adult fun
  • Parent Date Night/Children's Rest From Parent Night
  • Family Vacations

2. Make sure everyone understand how important their home schedule is to them.

3. Make the schedule together as a team.

4. Be flexable and change what ever doesn't work.

(Make sure that you include special time for each person in your family that you swear by,this will be your trump card when you have your personal time.)

Example: Time Management Schedule

  • 3 pm-Snack/Homework ,chores
  • 4 pm-5:30 pm-Cooking/bonding about day
  • 6 pm Eat!
  • 6:30 pm-Check homework,Computer time,or TV with feet up.
  • 7pm-Bathtime,Dishes
  • 8 pm-healthy snack before bed (Turn with special someone)
  • 9 pm- Bedtime for younger children
  • 10 pm-Bedtime for older children

This may not be the best schedule but I'm sure you can come up with one just for your family. The point is the reduce stress and to be more efficient in the household. We are better parents when we can think straight.

Time management skills are something to hold near in this crazy world when our work never seems to be done. If you have any Time Management Tips you would like to add, we can sure add them!

Good hub. I often wonder how my parents accomplished so much -- working full time. Scheduling and consistency are key. Thanks for sharing.
