Updated on July 4, 2015

Helsinki Finland

Finland is famously a really forward-thinking when it comes to pregnancy and maternity. Every parent receives a care package from the government, featuring some goods and products that will be needed to take care of the baby during the first few months of his life. With such a high regard for infants, Finland stands out as a great destination for traveling pregnant women.

2. Sweden

Safe, forward thinking and beautiful, Sweden is definitely a great place to travel if you are looking to get on a pre-birth adventure. Sweden offers exciting cities such as Stockholm and Gothenburg, as well as wonderful natural parks and countryside. You’ll find discrete and respectful people who will make sure you have enough personal space.

3. Norway

Not unlike their Scandinavian cousins of Sweden, Norwegians offer a safe environment to pregnant women. Public transportation is efficient, clean and reliable, while hospitals and other medical facilities are up to the highest standards in the world, just in case!

4. Denmark

Denmark, particularly its capital city, Copenhagen, offers a really cool compromise between continental European vibes and Scandinavian efficiency. A great place for pregnant travelers.

Is United States still a great place to raise a family?

5. Canada

Canadians are notoriously nice people who will get out of their way to make you feel more comfortable. This is quite a stereotype, but it is actually true. Most people will take particular consideration around you, noticing that you are actually pregnant! Cities such as Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal are safe and exciting: the best combination.

Dublin Ireland

6. Ireland

Irish people are friendly, while cities like Dublin are lively and diverse without necessarily becoming overwhelming or dangerous. The only problem for pregnant travelers? It is going to be hard to resist getting into a pub and drink some of that excellent local stout!

7. United States

Granted, the US are extremely diverse. This is a large country where not every place is considered safe or environmentally suitable for pregnant travelers out of their habitual environment, but there are many places that feel safe and not as chaotic. New Haven, Seattle, Portland, Cleveland, Chicago are a few that come to mind.

England Tower Bridge.

8. England

Much like the United States (albeit on a smaller scale), the UK is diverse and multicultural. Most areas of London are safe and pleasant to visit, even when there are many tourists around. Other cities such as Liverpool or Manchester aren’t as hectic, but they offer a pleasant stay within a relatively secure environment.

Lucerne Switzerland

9. Switzerland

Much like in Scandinavian countries, Swiss people are usually very polite and have the utmost respect for one’s personal space. Cities such as Zurich or Luzern are clean, charming and definitely pregnant-friendly!

10. Singapore

This is a rather exotic destination compared to many of the countries on this list. Singapore is notoriously one of the cleanest and safest countries in the world (even chewing gum was banned from the country in order to keep the streets cleaner). The high-tech urban landscape and state-of-the-art facilities will ensure a safe and interesting stay.

      Hi Wendi,

Thanks for the insight. I was considering moving my family to Canda. How is the universal healthcare impacting the lives of Canadians? What to expect moving to Canada? Thank you so much for the comment Wendi.

Us Canadians are pretty nice- but I wouldn't want to be pregnant in Canada with the Universal Healthcare. Too hard to find a doctor in many parts of Ontario (where I am from!) Nice hub!

      - Wendi :)
