When Parents Words Hurt
Moving pass the negative
There are things we can do to counter attack all those negative things they hear. We can instill in them that they are great and they can succeed and are destined for greatness. The more negative they hear, the more positive reinforcement we must give. Children who are told they will never succeed, often believe that and will go through great lengths to make this so.
Children look to parents for everything and although we may give them the necessities in life, we must also give them the correct words to carry them through this life. Telling children they are doomed to failure or that they are as bad as their mother or father puts in their hearts and minds that they will not be as great as they can be. There are some who will stand the test of time and are resilient enough to bounce back from whatever obstacles they may face. Our children should never here us say, you are bad, you can't learn, you are dumb or stupid, you will never amount to anything. When we put these words into their minds and hearts, we are say perpetuating stereotypes that may have been said about another race, ethnicity or disabled person.
