a child like a seed
MY CHILD...OUR CHILD PRECIOUS IF WELL PURIFIED.
Children are from God. They have been given to us parents to take good care of them. We must not miss this opportunity of teaching them the right way to follow. We as their instructors will give account of any child that passes through us, even if the child in question is our biological child or not. God handed them over to us as care takers. We are to nurture and nourish, teach and bring them up in the fear of the Lord. Just like Proverbs 22:6 enjoins us to: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Believe that when plant a seed of holiness, righteousness, truthfulness, fear of God, is instilled into child, even if it seems that the child is not doing well, do not worry, one day the seed you sowed in him will sprout up and begin to grow and bear good fruits. Psalm 127:5 says: “Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.”
When you have these children you will be happy and will never be ashamed even to speak outside especially when these children are well trained and well behaved in the public. Obedient and respectful children are the joy of every parent. So if you do not train them, they will trail of on their own.
Remember that, The world does not have any good thing to offer to our children.“For all that is in the world is lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life….”1 John 2:16
Did you get that? Why not sit up and fasten your belt to teach the child the right way to follow and to do that you teach. Teaching is necessary in the following areas of a child’s life: spiritual, mental, social, physical and domestic
Teach the child the word of God. Buy children’s bible and their reading guide. There are many such reading guides these days. Teach the child to observe quiet time using his Bible and reading guide. Call the child out regularly for morning meditation. Let the child be fully involved during morning devotion and let there be time for asking questions and sharing testimonies. This will make the child to have better understanding of who God is and the supremacy of God. Hence, the child will begin to trust and obey God who is able to do all things. As it is written: “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”Luke 1:37
Teach the child to speak the Word of God, meditate on the Word and do all that is written in the scripture so that he will prosper and have good success.
Timothy’s life teaches us some great lessons on christian ministry to children and youth. It is important for Christian parents to intentionally influence their children to bring them to faith in Christ. Timothy learned faith from his mother Eunice and grand mother Lois.
“When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois and thy mother Eunice and I am persuaded that in thee also.”2 Timothy 1:5
Buy christian novels/literatures, movies/films that are very educative and keep the children busy with them. Do not allow them to watch worldly movies/films that will corrupt them.
The mental upbringing of a child should not be neglected in training the child. We should start early in life to develop the mental abilities of our children before sending them to school. The school is a formal institution established for the education of youngsters. The school enables them to acquire social and economic desirable knowledge, skills and attitudes for their own benefits and the benefits of the society in which they live and function. But before you send them to school, make sure that you have laid a proper mental foundation from which they will take off to school.
As Christian parents, we must give our children equal education, not preferring one to another, wanting the male child to do a professional course like medicine, law, engineering etc in the university and the female to be a classroom teacher. Give them equal opportunity.
During holidays/vacation engage them in lucrative/skillful training, such as dress-making, snacks making, computer training, visiting mechanic workshops, etc. Make sure they learn one skill or the other during the holidays to keep them busy, for idleness they say is the devil’s workshop.“And withal they learn to be idle, wandering from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.”1Timothy5:13
Be conscious of your child’s relationship or friends being kept. Guide them properly on the choice of their friends and make sure you severe any ungodly relationship they have. Encourage your children to bring their friends home.
Try as much as possible to keep your child at home and allow him to go out only when it is necessary. Teach the child secular things. Expose the child to the things in the world. Let him know the two sides of the coin. Let the child know the good and bad sides of things around them.
Let your child know that Jesus Christ has overcome the world, conquered Satan and has given us victory and that we are more than conqueror.“Nay, in all these things we are more than conqueror through him that loved us.” Romans 8:37
Physical and Domestic
Is your child on top of his physical appearance? Does he do some physical exercises to keep fit? How much rest does he take and how regularly? All these must be in mind when training your child to be physically fit. It is our duty as parents to teach our children physical hygiene. Teach them how to bath, wash their clothes; clean their teeth and even how to eat. Cleanliness is next to godliness. Hygiene promotes health. Teach the child how to keep his environment clean.
Train the child on how to do domestic things at home. Whether the child is a boy or a girl does not really matter. Give them equal training. Do not segregate, as you teach the girl how to cook and keep the house clean, teach the boy also.
We are talking about the total child, all round child and balanced child. For your child to be a total/balanced child, he must be sound in all aspects of his life; spiritual, mental, social and physical so that he will be able to face the challenges of life, fight the good fight of faith and wear the crown of glory at last.
God wants our children to be balanced in every aspect of their lives. My prayer is that we will teach our children the right way to follow, in Jesus Name, AMEN!
