Once, I was riding in a car with my parents and a couple of my children. We were talking about my grandfather's death. My children had only met him once, but they had seen pictures of him. Suddenly, one of my children, who was about 3 said, "I'm glad he died. He was old." I didn't really know what to say. My father said, "She doesn't understand what she is saying." I knew that was true, but I also knew the comment hurt him deeply.
